A New Year ahead and a new chapter for NELLCO in New York!
Happy Holidays! I hope the season is filled with family, friends and food. My gift to you is my mother's recipe for pumpkin cheesecake roll. This one is easy but looks like it's not, and it's so pretty on the table and on the plate. Enjoy!
The end of the year is bringing big change for NELLCO. As I reported in an earlier issue we're relocating NELLCO headquarters to offices in the Albany Law School Schaffer Law Library. Effective 1/4/2010 the new contact info for NELLCO is as follows:
NELLCO
Albany Law School
Schaffer Law Library, Suite L206-L207
80 New Scotland Ave.
Albany, NY 12208
518-694-3025 - voice
518-694-3027 - fax
This move also means some staff changes. Cindy Adams has served as my Administrative Assistant since Oct. 2007. Cindy has been a wonderful asset to NELLCO. Her work ethic, loyalty and personal touch have meant first-rate service to our members and strengthened relationships with our vendors. Cindy has been my right arm over the last two years. Her organizational skills, intuition, wisdom and humor have been key components to my success in my work. I will miss her as a support person, but also as a friend. I know you all join me in wishing Cindy ( cindy.adams@nellco.org) all the best. Please see Cindy's message below.
Joining the NELLCO staff as Administrative and Member Support Manager, effective 1/4/2010, is Theresa McCue. Theresa brings over 14 years of experience in account management, marketing and e-business, from her previous employer, St. Lawrence Cement in Albany. Theresa has been working with Cindy virtually over the last few weeks to begin to learn the ropes and I'm confident she'll be a quick study! Please feel free to be in touch with Theresa at theresa.mccue@nellco.org to introduce yourself and welcome her to NELLCO.
As may be expected, I anticipate some bumps in the road during the next few months as we settle in to our new surroundings and begin building new working relationships. I would ask that you be patient with us but don't hesitate to follow up if you think something might have slipped through the cracks! We are going to do our best to minimize disruptions and continue to provide the level of service that you have come to expect. If you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming move please e-mail me at tracy.thompson@nellco.org.
Sincerely,
Tracy L. Thompson-Przylucki, Executive Director |
Farewell from Cindy Adams, Administrative Assistant |
Dear Members and Vendors,
It is with regret that I say goodbye to NELLCO. I have enjoyed working with all of you over the last 2 years and have been happy to be of service to you. It has been my pleasure to be a part of NELLCO and all that it stands for. Every ending brings with it a new beginning. I am looking forward to starting a new career as a Virtual Assistant and will be working on growing my business over the next few months. I would like to thank you all for making my job one I truly loved. I am sure you will be as welcoming to Theresa as you were to me, I believe she will make a wonderful replacement. Take care and be well.

Upcoming Offer on Streaming Video from Swank |
Campuses Find New Ways to Power Curriculum with Film
At the NELLCO Annual Reference Meeting last week in Springfield, MA, participants were treated to a demonstration by Mike Eyler of the video streaming technology being offered for use in the classroom by Swank Motion Pictures. Swank's platform, known as Digital Campus, allows faculty to use streaming video content within the curriculum with some enhanced pedagogical functionality. Faculty members can embed questions and notes within the video stream that provide students with an interactive learning experience.
Beginning in the Fall semester of 2010, NELLCO is going to experiment with Digital Campus for one academic year (2010-2011). We will be licensing 100 titles (selected by the individual member library) on behalf of all U.S.-based* NELLCO libraries at a cost of $10,000. In effect, we're purchasing 100 credits for use across the consortium. Any U.S.-based NELLCO member that wishes to take advantage of the offer can view the online catalog of over 15,000 films to find relevant video content for your curriculum. Each title will be licensed for use by a single institution for a given class over the course of a single semester. The cost per title/per library is $100.00. If this is a successful offer we will consider licensing more titles after the first year in order to get further discounts for our members. If you think this is something your library and faculty will be interested in please let us know!
*Swank's streaming rights are limited to the U.S. As a result, we cannot extend this offer to non-U.S.-based members. |

ALA symposium in Boston features NELLCO Board Member, John Palfrey |
LIVING DIGITAL: The Future of Information and the Role of the Library. Thursday, January 14, 2010 (8:30am-4:30pm). Website for the symposium and link to registration can be found here.
Collections and access to information are the bread and butter of libraries. The digital environment has introduced new materials, new partners, and new user expectations into the information arena. Four distinguished speakers from inside and outside of librarianship will consider topics that include recruiting students into information-related professions, information-seeking behaviors of those living in the digital age, emerging initiatives related to information access, and techniques institutions may employ in adapting to new information ecologies. Attendees will learn how to facilitate the delivery of information and understand their role in an environment of constantly evolving genres and increasing quantities of information. |
