NEW IN PROVENCE . . .

Provence remains one of the most popular destinations for our clients.  Here is the newest property added to our portfolio and with good availability for the 2011 season:

The Alpilles region, with majestic rock formations and charming towns and villages, is the backdrop for this traditionally designed home in Eygalières.  It's an easy walk to the village where you'll find bakers, small grocers, cafés, restaurants (one Michelin-rated) and an open-air market every Friday.  St-Rémy, with its historic sights, shops and services, is a short drive.  From this highly central location, all the sights of Provence are within your reach.

Set in a lovely private garden, the property features shade, olive and cypress trees, rosemary, lavender and a pretty bassin-style pool with wood deck.  Running the length of the house is a vine-covered stone terrace, the ideal spot for relaxing with a good book or an aperitif.

Inside, the house is light and bright with large windows, ceramic tile floors and white walls.  Appliances are all top notch and modern conveniences include Wi Fi internet and satellite television.  The atmosphere is casual and comfortable with a combination of contemporary and antique furnishings.

3 bedrooms and 2 baths for 6 people.  Ref. AH84

 AHIF RECOMMENDS  . . .

Here is a sampling of the travel services and web sites we refer to on a regular basis:

·   xe.com - our favorite provider of internet foreign exchange rates.  Where to find out how many euros your vacation dollars will buy.

·   bing.com/maps - easy to use site for directions anywhere in the world.  Bing recently bought MultiMap and incorporated its mapping capabilities.  The site also has a link to travel-related apps.

·   sncf.fr - the French National Railroads web site, in French only. If you read and understand a fair amount of French (don't click the English version), you can take advantage of lower rail fares, generally not offered on the Rail Europe site.

·   travelessentials.com - a premier purveyor of travel gear and accessories, including quality luggage, stylish clothes, books, maps, small electronics and more!  With a retail outlet in Ashland, Oregon, their staff of experienced travelers is available in the shop, by phone and online.

·   gemut.com  - although specializing in travel to Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the folks at gemut.com are veteran European travelers.  They work with consolidators on car rentals and airline tickets throughout Europe and offer competitive rates for France. The site also provides invaluable advice on an array of travel topics.  Among our favorites are best currency exchange options and surviving the car rental counter.  Travel staff available by phone and online.

·   Michelin Green Guides and maps - call us outdated!  But in our estimation, there are no apps that replace Michelin's Green Guide series with its wealth of cultural and historical information, suggested itineraries etc.  And while mapping technology is convenient, the routes presented are often not the most desirable.  That's where Michelin's detailed maps and your common sense combine to provide the preferred route to your destination.  Readily available online (and through Travel Essentials, see above), in specialty bookstores and throughout France in bookstores and newsstands.
