  Quote of the Week

  • Responsibility does not only lie with the leaders of our countries or with those who have been appointed or elected to do a particular job. It lies with each of us individually. Peace, for example, starts within each one of us. When we have inner peace, we can be at peace with those around us.
  • Dalai Lama

PAIN MANAGEMENT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WE TREAT THE DEPENDENCE AND THEN THE PAIN
Introducing our New Pain Management Track. We understand what you're going through and are here to help you. A dependency on prescription medication has become common in this country. It is estimated that today more than 4.7 million Americans are dependent on prescription medications. Whether it is a result of a physical injury caused by an accident, surgery, anxiety, or chronic pain caused by cancer or another disease, people from every walk of life are struggling with this problem. This is a problem that does not have any external signs. It is not something that is easily identified just by a looking at a person, and can affect anyone, anywhere; but we can help.
A new federal study indicates that marijuana has become more popular among American teenagers. A drop in smoking, binge drinking and methamphetamine use was also noted in the study.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse survey via the University of Michigan showed that more teens are getting high on prescription pain medications and attention-deficit drugs.
White House drug czar Gil Kerlikowske said in a statement that the "continued erosion in youth attitudes and behavior toward substance abuse should give pause to all parents and policymakers."
Kerlikowske is the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
 The treatment center of the palm beaches is preparing for the holidays.  This tends to be a difficult time for our patients and can result in a high relapse rate.  Most patients have decided to extend their stay here until after New Years in order to allow the most possible success rate.  In addition as we prepare for gift giving I have asked our patients what they would like for the holidays.  Some patients have declined to have a gift asking for that to be donated to a charity or for a family that may need it more.  This is truly within the holiday and spirit and accurately describes the wonderful patients we have at The Treatment center!
Surrender
Surrender - the concept can be a terrifying thing. To some, the idea of surrendering to the fact that we are powerless over our disease may be thought of as a weakness. However, surrendering to the truth that we cannot conquer our addiction alone and that we need help to stop is, in fact, a tremendous strength. In surrender there is freedom. Surrender is empowerment.
 Seasons Greetings
Doesn't it seem obvious in the scheme of things how our world is in desperate need of healing, joy, and peace. When we realize that one million people will die of hunger this year and one child dies every sixty seconds, that our Armed Forces are engaged in world battles against terrorism, and that thousands of Americans are without a jobs and healthcare, there has to be a time and a place when it can and will change lest we perish.
 In truth, this Season of Christmas each year signals 'this time and place' when change is possible for us through that awesome, mysterious, joyful announcement of God-with-us. This enfleshment of Divine Love extends hope and peace to all people of good will. Change in the world is within our reach, if we personally change and then reach out to transform a culture of selfishness, greed and death to one of life and love. Christmas calls for an internal change with each of us, and commissions us to become instruments of peace and ambassadors of good will. We must experience this life-divinizing encounter of God-with-us so as to make a healing difference in the lives of God's people and our world.
 My all-time favorite Christmas carol from childhood to the present, O Holy Night, echoes the announcement of God's love for us, our call to love each other, and the need to be transformed by the Child of Wonder. The lyric sings, "O Holy night...it is the night of the dear Savior's birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining till He appeared and the soul felt His worth. A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices for yonder beams a new and glorious morn. ...Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is love and His gospel is peace. Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother, and in His name oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, let all within us praise His holy name for Christ is the Lord- His pow'r and glory ever more proclaim."
 So this TGIF weekend, as we light menorahs in the beautiful Hanukkah tradition and prepare to welcome in the mangers of our hearts the Light of the world at Christmas, let our thoughts, words and deeds become lighted candles to dispel the darkness of our world; let us minister to the needs of our homeless, hungry and dying brothers and sisters. As He taught us to love one another, so let His law of love and His gospel of peace reign in our world. Let us break the chains of slavery and in His name make oppression cease, for there is 'a thrill of hope for us,' and 'the weary world can rejoice' ~ yonder beams the New and Glorious Light- Immanuel.
Most addicts, while in active addiction, don't realize the emotional turmoil they cause to their family and loved ones. If you or someone you love is an addict then you have probably heard, or said this, or some variation of it..."it's my life and my body, and I'll do what I want with it." It is not uncommon for addicts to close themselves off from the rest of the world, but for some reason they never stop to think about others that this might affect. I used to think that by slowly killing myself the world would be better off, my parents wouldn't have to worry about me, and a great weight would be lifted off the earth. It is this self-centered behavior that stops a lot of people from seeking treatment. I want to let anyone know who might be reading this, that there are others like you, and there are others out there that have walked in your shoes and made it through to the other side. Call us...we know what you are going through and we can restore hope to you and your loved ones.
CEO'S DESK
Friday night was our First Annual Holiday Party for employees and guests.  It was the generosity of our business partners that made this event possible.  We had over 100 in attendance.  Sandy, our HR Specialist, put together the event.  Nelson, our Accounting Specialist, was the very able DJ!  It was my pleasure to meet and thank our employees for the dedication and care they show our patients.
ALUMNI NEWS
With the holiday season upon us, I find myself busting at the stockings with gratitude. The gifts this program has given to me are countless. My life today is exponentially better than it has ever been. I walked through the door to treatment a broken and defeated person. I had little hope and was generally unhappy with life. I think back to how life used to be and I am amazed at the amount of change that has taken place in a fairly short amount of time. Through treatment and working a program, my life continues to improve on a daily basis.
I am not going to get into the materialistic and commercial issues with the holiday season. However, I ask that this year we focus on being grateful for the things we have in life that are truly important. Presents are nice, don't get me wrong. We all love receiving gifts (FYI I prefer Cartier over Rolex), but try to be grateful for real gifts we have received this year. Whether they are reconnecting with a friend we grew apart from, growing closer to a loved one, or the relationships we have with family; cherish and be thankful for the people we have to share the holidays with. Happy Holidays from myself and everyone at The Treatment Center.
