Passionate, organized Orchard lover sought! Here is an opportunity to make a big difference in the life of your Community Orchard. After more than a year serving as Volunteer Coordinator, the wonderful and steadfast Stacey Decker will be stepping down to tend to other loves. We're seeking a friendly, dedicated soul with excellent communication skills to take over this position in March 2012, with full training beginning soon and complete support provided. Get Ready for National Volunteer Week 2012

National Volunteer Week, April 15-21, is a time to celebrate people doing extraordinary things through service. The 2012 theme will be 'Celebrating People in Action', a theme that captures the meaning behind this national event honoring individuals who use their time, talent, voice and money to take action and solve problems in their communities.
A resource guide to help recognize volunteer service and equip organization with the marketing and communications tools needed to make their 2012 National Volunteer Week programs a success is available for download.

MLK Volunteer Project Grant Funding
| Please think about building a substantial MLK Day project this year. The City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission, with support from Service for Peace and the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, invites you to apply for an MLK Day grant to increase the impact and effectiveness of your project. Service to Veterans and Military Families on MLK Day

This year's MLK Day service grants encourage a focus on veterans or military families in service activities or as recipients of service. Martin Luther King Day of Service is January 16th. This is a great day to mobilize volunteers and honor the military community through service. Indiana Building Nonprofit Hub Online

The state of Indiana is building an online hub for nonprofits looking for state aid. The online portal will help point nonprofits to state and federal grants and volunteering and training opportunities. The Indiana Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives demonstrated the new tool Wednesday. Agencies across state government from the Department of Agriculture to the Department of Homeland Security are posting online through the new system. Fourteen agencies in all are participating. Bloomington Bicycle Club Grants Available deadline December 31, 2011

Does it make sense to incorporate a bicycle program of some type into your volunteer program? Perhaps your volunteers commute by bike and would use a bike rack or bike lockers? Maybe volunteers could work with your clientele teaching bike safety or accompanying them to The Bicycle Project to fix their bikes? Get creative! Bloomington Bicycle Club GrantsThe Bloomington Bicycle Club has $10,000 in grant money to award to a variety of community groups, including nonprofit organizations and programs, schools, and other civic-minded organizations.
Goals of the grant program are:
- Promote and encourage bicycling for recreation, competition, travel, and transportation
- Train and educate the community about bicycles and bicycling
- Promote better public understanding and respect for the rights of bicyclists and the observance of traffic regulations by bicyclists and drivers
- Promote bicycle safety
