Yoga Center Amherst
Saturday, October 3
7:30pm - 9:00pm

Greetings. Summer officially ended with the equinox last Tuesday afternoon. The cycle continues.

Last Sunday at Hart Yoga (what a great name for a Yoga studio!) in Shelburne Falls we gathered for a day of practice. We began with an asana practice, moving slowly and mindfully through the postures ending with a well deserved sivasana. Lynn Ferro led us out of sivasana with a few words about meditation and chanting, and then for over an hour we chanted. In the stillness that arose after the chanting ended, we sat.

That stillness is the culmination of practice for me, providing for the possibility of insight.

On Saturday evening at Yoga Center Amherst we gather again for our monthly Kirtan. Then on Sunday evening at Yoga Sanctuary in Northampton I'll be sub'ing for Dave Russell who is taking a well deserved vacation weekend. Please join us for either or both.

Two short poems are my inspirational offering this week, and also the following words from Nasargadata:

...produce to distribute, feed before you eat, give before you take, think of others before you think of yourself.

let it be love,

Rick

How precious our time together here truly is!

Hafiz - The Gift

I know the idiot's warehouse is always full.
I know each of us could run back and forth from there all day long, and show everyone our vast collection.

Though tonight, Hafiz, retire from the madness for an hour, gather with some loyal friends or sit alone
and sing beautiful songs...
To God.

The Bijak of Kabir
No one knows the secret of the weaver who spreads his warp through the universe. He dug two ditches, sky and earth, made two spools, sun and moon, filled his shuttle with a thousand threads, and weaves till today: a difficult length!

Kabir says, they're joined by actions. Good threads and bad, that fellow weaves both.

Kirtan
with Rick Roberts and friends
Every 1st and 3rd Saturday

...is a time for people to come together, open their hearts and sing. For years chanting has helped people to effortlessly reach a state of quiet and stillness that easliy leads to meditation. While it's true that we can chant in our car or in the solitude of our home, there's nothing like chanting with others and with live musicians. Every kirtan is different depending on the energy of the group, but as the evening progresses one becomes saturated with the Name, the mind becomes one-pointed and dropping into a deep state of meditation becomes effortless.

Suggested donation is $10 but please remember that a donation is not necessary. Anything is appreciated, and all are welcome regardless of their ability to pay.
