Green River Yoga
Saturday, March 21
7:30pm

On Friday morning at 7:44am we officially move into Spring, but after enjoying a couple warm days last weekend, to me it already feels like Spring! Just as Spring comes every year to New England, so Kirtan comes every 3rd Saturday to Greenfield. I hope you can join us this Saturday at 7:30pm to welcome the Spring with an evening of chanting and meditation at Green River Yoga in Greenfield.

If you missed the Amherst Kirtan earlier this month I'm including a link to one of of the chants we did that night (Marilyn's favorite) Hara Hara Gurudev. Enjoy!

Also, if you're interested in an early morning ceremony and prayer to welcome the Spring then consider joining Elliot Tarry at the Medicine Wheel in Montague for his annual equinox ritual at dawn on Friday. For directions you can call Elliot at 917-549-8329.

I may seem stuck in a rut here, but oh what a lovely rut! After picking up Lalleshwari last month I'm afraid I wasn't able to put her down, so again I want to share with you some of her ecstatic verses. Lalleshwari (Lalla Ded, 1320-1389) lived in fourteenth century Kashmir and was the first in a long list of saints who preached medieval mysticism which later enwrapped the whole of India. She pre-dates two of my other favorite poets, Kabir and Tulsidas, by about 100 years! Enjoy!

let it be love,

Rick

Inspirational Corner
from Lalleshwari
Spiritual poems by a great Siddha Yogini

The anahata sound
is beyond time and space,
yet within everyone.
Its final abode is the Void,
where it has neither name nor color,
neither origin nor form.
When it arises on its own
as pure "I"-awareness,
its first form is subtle sound,
its second, a tiny point of light.

O Lalli, then it mounts
the horse of the breath
and rides in and out
in the form of So'ham.

I want to see Him.
I don't care how.
But a limitless ocean
stands between us.
How can I cross it
with the boat of my mind
when my mind is so weak?

Look for a friend.
Become the close companion
of the inhalation and exhalation.
By combining So'ham with them,
you can sail across.

I entered the blazing furnace
of the practice of yoga.
like ice, I melted
in that fire of love.
My inner impurities burned away,
leaving pure gold.

When the sun of knowledge rose,
the dew of ignorance disappeared.
When I realized my oneness
with the name of God,
My "I"-ness was obliterated
and Lalli found peace..

Kirtan
with Rick Roberts and friends
Every 1st and 3rd Saturday

...is a time for people to come together, open their hearts and sing. For years chanting has helped people to effortlessly reach a state of quiet and stillness that easliy leads to meditation. While it's true that we can chant in our car or in the solitude of our home, there's nothing like chanting with others and with live musicians. Every kirtan is different depending on the energy of the group, but as the evening progresses one becomes saturated with the Name, the mind becomes one-pointed and dropping into a deep state of meditation becomes effortless.

Suggested donation is $10 but please remember that a donation is not necessary. Anything is appreciated, and all are welcome regardless of their ability to pay.
