Montague is covered with a beautiful blanket of snow now as I sit to
write this morning, looking forward to chanting again with everyone on
Saturday. This time we have together is so precious and with all that's
going on in the rest of the world, I feel truly blessed. Although I'm
hopeful that new leadership at home will be good for the entire planet,
I'm also saddened by what I hear every day in the news and pray that a
way to Peace can be found.
Looking
back, it's hard to believe that I've
been offering Kirtan at Green River Yoga every 3rd
Saturday since Spring 2005! It's been an amazing practice for me to
show up every month to chant, sometimes with just me and Marilyn and
sometimes with many voices and musicians. While it's true that we can
chant by ourselves, in our cars, or to the accompaniment of a Krishna
Das CD, there's nothing like chanting with others and with live
musicians. I hope you can join us this Saturday for the first Green River Yoga Kirtan in 2009.
This month is unusually full because in addition to the two
regular monthly Kirtans I'll be offering Kirtan at
Kripalu
on Wednesday January 21...just after the Presidential Inauguration. If
you're able to travel to Lenox, MA then please join us. There is a $10
fee for evening events at Kripalu and dinner is available at 5:30pm for
an additional fee. Contact Kripalu for more info if you're interested
in coming.
with much love,
Rick

 This
Saturday I'll be joined by some of the regulars: Marilyn Hart playing
kartals, Dona O'Dou playing tamboura, Divya Shinn singing and
Bob Weiner playing drums and percussion.
In addition to the regulars, Warrick Moses, a clarinetist
from the Boston area who has been playing Kirtans in the Sikh tradition
may be joining us as well.

Inspirational Corner
Are you looking for me? I am in the next seat: your shoulder is against mine.
You will not find me in stupas, nor in Indian shrine rooms, nor in the
synagogue, nor in cathedrals, not in masses, nor kirtans, not in legs
twisting around the neck, nor in eating nothing but vegetables.
When you look for me, you will find me instantly. You will find me in the tiniest house of time.
Kabir says, "Student, tell me, what is God? He is the breath inside the breath."

Experience the Joy Kirtan
Every 1st and 3rd Saturday
 Experience
the Joy is a time for people to come together, open their hearts and
sing. For years chanting has helped people to effortlessly reach a
state of quiet and stillness that easliy leads to meditation. While
it's true that we can chant in our car or in the solitude of our
home, there's nothing like chanting with others and with live
musicians. Every kirtan is different depending on the energy of the
group, but as the evening progresses one becomes saturated with the
Name and the mind becomes one-pointed. The tempo may increase but
all the while there is this soft center, this open heart to which we
ever return.
