Summer greetings from
the Center for Irish Music!
It is hard to believe that the Minnesota Irish Music Weekend has come and gone and that the Irish Fair is around the corner so soon. In the midst of a busy summer of camps, classes and exciting public performances, I have many important announcements to share with you.
First of all, I'd like to introduce you to a new fiddle teacher, AJ Srubas! Originally from Green Bay, AJ has recently moved to the Twin Cities after completing a degree in instrument repair in Red Wing. He is a gorgeous Irish fiddle player and a lovely person and we are very happy to have him join our fabulous team of instructors.
Congratulations to Danielle Enblom for being awarded a scholarship to complete a graduate program at IT Tralee to research the culture and history of dancing in West Cork starting in September. Congratulations also to Charlie and Ann Heymann who have recently been awarded a visiting fellowship by The Moore Institute for Research to conduct a project called "Exploring the Role of the Cláirseach in the performance of Early Irish Poetry" at the U of Galway this fall. The CIM wishes you all the best in your research and will look forward to welcoming you home with open arms upon your return.
Thank you to Lisa Forrette for two years of dedicated service to the CIM in her position as Fundraising Director. As Lisa steps down from this important position, we would like to thank her directly for developing and implementing a fundraising program for the CIM that fits our organization perfectly. Thank you, Lisa! For the time being, please contact Erika or Norah if you would like to make a donation or join the fundraising team, or visit to the Support CIM tab on the website.
Thank you to Natalie O'Shea, our longest standing board member who stepped down from the board in July. This month's board meeting marked the sixth anniversary of the CIM becoming a 501c3 non-profit organization and Natalie has been there for it all. Thank you, Natalie for everything you have done to make the CIM the thriving music school that it is today!
Finally, thanks you to our MIM volunteers, in particular Emily Flagstad, our fearless MIM Chair! This year's MIM was a very successful weekend with more new students and out-of-town visitors that a CIM event has ever had! Thanks to those of you who volunteered on the committee and over the weekend.
Norah Rendell
Executive Director

Please consider supporting CIM by serving on our board of directors
While we have been delighted with the diversity of and unique talents brought by our two new board members this year, the departures of Natalie O'Shea and Lisa Forrette has reminded us that we need to build our board by a few more dedicated and experienced individuals. If you have a background in fundraising, education, non-profits, arts or another area that you feel would enhance our board, we'd love to hear from you! If you are interested or know someone who might be, please contact our executive director, Norah Rendell. Thank you! |
CIM is on !

We have finally gotten around to creating an official
CIM channel on YouTube! We've already uploaded several videos, with many more to come. You'll find related videos uploaded by friends of CIM under our `Favorites' section. Let us know what you think. We're excited to be able to share the talents of our community with you in this format.
