Thank you for supporting CIM during the
Irish Fair of MN!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for your generosity of time, energy, and enthusiasm during this year's Irish Fair of MN!  Hearty thank yous to all of our booth volunteers and to those of you who supported our student and instructor musicians by attending a workshop or performance! Planning for CIM's involvement in the fair takes countless hours of planning and organizing.  We especially thank our students, instructors, and staff for all of your many hours of dedication!  WE APPRECIATE YOU!

Two camps left this summer!

The following camps still have space in them!  We're just waiting for YOU to sign up.

For more details on the following camps, please visit our website.  You can register on-line or by filling out a paper registration form at CIM.

CAMP FOR ADULTS

August 23-25The Music Behind the Music: The Art of Accompaniment taught by Sean Egan, Daithi Sproule, Chad McAnally, Cory Froehlich, Cormac O'Se and Todd Menton, from 7-9pm.  Six of our instructors share their insights into the art of accompanying Irish music as they demonstrate and discuss their approach on a variety of instruments; harp, guitar, bouzouki, piano, piano accordion, and bodhran. By introducing you to a variety of traditional techniques and showing how any given tune can be treated many different ways, this camp will improve your playing and help you develop your own style.

CAMP FOR KIDS

August 23-26:  Be a Recording Artist! (ages 7-11), taught by Danielle Enblom & Brian Miller, from 1:30-4:30pm. Work with your friends to create a real live Irish music album.  We'll find common tunes, learn new ones, create arrangements, and make a recording by the end of the week.  During the camp, you will also have a chance to design cover art for your album.  Finish the week off with a live CD release concert for friends and family and a CD to take home.  (students must have taken classes at CIM previously or be familiar with tunes on our common repetoire page.)

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24

It is time to sign up for the 11th Annual Minnesota Feis music competition! It will take place on Saturday September 24 at the RiverCenter in St Paul from 9:30AM-3:00PM.

A Feis (pronounced  fesh) is an Irish arts competition that includes step dancing by both children and adults, music (both vocal and instrumental), irish soda bread and other Irish crafts. This is a great part of the tradition of Irish music that is common all over Ireland. It provides students an avenue to perform tunes for judges (who give feedback in the form of written
comments) and a chance to win prizes in each of their instruments.

All CIM students are encouraged to attend.  Please refer to our website for detailed information and instructions on how to register for the Feis.  Registration happens through the FeisWorx website.

Members of the Minnesota Feis will be at the CIM open house to answer any questions and to assist with registration, if needed.  Questions prior to the CIM Open House can be directed to Kathleen Green (evan0135@yahoo.com) or Kevin Carroll at

(kpjc2001@gmail.com).

CIM instructors strongly encourage their students to take advantage of this competition
. Contact your instructor for help in choosing material, working it up, and for coaching on what to expect during the competition itself.
