NO
YOUNG IRISH MUSICIANS WEEKEND
THIS YEAR...
We are actually excited to NOT be offering our very popular Young Irish Musicians Weekend this year. Have we confused you? Taking a year off means that we can devote the immense time and energy needed to plan this large event over a longer period of time. We are working on bringing in THE BEST master artists next summer and fine-tuning our programming to offer more workshops for adults! In the meantime, we are looking for a *NEW NAME* for this amazing event. In fact, to find the perfect name, we're making it a contest!
**CONTEST** ********************************** CALLING ALL CREATIVE TYPES! YIM NEEDS A NEW NAME! Send us your best ideas for a new name for YIM that better reflects the diversity of those that have been attending this one-of-a-kind weekend. We have yet to come up with a suitable prize, but we're open to suggestions! Send your ideas to Emily and we'll post them all for a vote in the fall. We look forward to all of your ideas! |
**UPRIGHT PIANO** NEEDED
CIM is in GREAT need of a good quality upright acoustic piano!! If you have a piano you would like to donate (must be in good working condition, and upright pianos only), please contact Norah Rendell. She will need to set up a meeting to come see the piano before we can accept the donation. Please contact our fundraising director, Lisa Forrette, directly if you would like to donate specifically to our piano fund. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Great Gathering on the Mississippi! Missed the Eigse this year? Wondering how you can help CIM? Here's your chance to have fun AND contribute towards programming at CIM. Join us on a leisurely paddle down part of the Mississippi River Gorge. Starting from the Bohemian Flats area, by the U of M Minneapolis Campus, we will paddle downstream to Hidden Falls Regional Park, a distance of about 7 miles. We will pass the remains of the first lock and dam built on the river, go through Lock No. 1 by the Ford Plant and gain a whole new perspective on our city. Wildlife abounds and we may see bald eagles, herons, deer, coyotes, beaver, and more. The trip will be led by CIM student Andy Tatham, who has paddled this section of the river for many years, including all seven of the annual Mississippi River Challenge events staged by Friends of the Mississippi River. We will provide car shuttles and a few goodies after the trip at Hidden Falls. Date: Saturday July 16th 2011 Approximate times: 10:00am - 4:00 pm
Cost: $30 per person or $100 per family All we ask is that you provide your own canoe or kayak and at least one person who can paddle a reasonably straight line! For safety reasons, we cannot take any pets or alcohol. Limit 10 boats. If extreme weather is forecast, we will arrange a rain-date.
To register:
- Click here to sign up for a slot! (10 boat maximum, but you can bring several people per boat!)
- Pay via paypal from our website (note that it is for the Mississippi River Tour) or place a check in our CIM payment dropbox (right inside the CIM space on your right)
- You will be contacted before the tour for more information!

Documentary on the life of harper Patrick Byrne (c.1794-1863) now available as a podcast!
LMFM radio in Ireland recently broadcasted a documentary show on the life of harper Patrick Byrne (c.1794-1863). The program features new recordings of Ann Heymann's harp playing and Charlie Heymann's singing in Irish, although they are unattributed on the show itself -- being used as soundtrack material. Included are pieces never before published or recorded: "Nurse Putting Child to Sleep" and "Rose McWard" ("Rķis nic Bhaird"), which survive solely in the manuscripts of Edward Bunting, who penned them from the playing of Patrick Byrne. The entire third part of the show features Ann's playing of "Brian Boru's March" behind a colorful account of Patrick Byrne's narrated performance as described in "The Emerald" (New York, 1868).
That broadcast is now available for download as a podcast from the LMFM's website: www.lmfm.ie/music/podcasts
