CIM Youth Ensemble
Performs at the Chicago
Celtic Festival!

Youth ensemble in ChicagoOur own youth ensemble performed at the Chicago Celtic Festival the weekend of May 7-9 alongside youth ensembles from Irish music schools in the midwest. Organized by Kate Dowling's whistle teacher, Noel Rice, the Next Generation Tent featured young Irish music groups from 11-4pm each day in Millennium Park.  We were lucky to have all of the families of the ensemble join us in Chicago for what turned out to be a fantastic weekend!  Below you will find select pictures from the weekend and a few quotes from the student musicians about their impressions.  Thank you for supporting the CIM.  We look forward to participating again next year!

Representing CIM at the Celtic Fest were: Darlene Lerwick (fiddle), Amber Keating (piano), Emiliano Morales (fiddle), Gabe Dale-Gau (fiddle), John Ochs (banjo), and Fiona McKenna (tin whistle).  Maia Crews-Erjavec, the ensemble's cello player, was unable to accompany the group due to an injury.  So, the ensemble was lucky to be accompanied by our own Brian Miller (guitar)!

"At one point while we were performing a crowd began to gather in front of the stage.  People who were walking by stopped to watch us play.  It was cool to see all of those people stopping for us." --Gabe Dale-Gau

"Chicago was wondrous, but for the record, it was so cold up on stage that my hands felt like they wanted to slow down, but because I was so nervous, they went the normal speed anyway; it was an equilibrium. I had a wonderful time. The two days were windy and at the end of the second day I busked with Emiliano and got a $1.50!  On the same day, I played with a group in a pub. That was really enjoyable. No downsides to the trip. I would go again next year." --John Ochs

"My favorite part of the trip was seeing the other musicians perform and hearing their arrangements.  It was a great trip and I hope to have more experiences like it." --Fiona McKenna

Of course, the weekend would not have been possible without the amazing support from the families of our students!  Many thanks go out to our awesome families and CIM instructors!
