Caregivers Competed to Please, Nurture Senior Palates
Comfort Keepers 1
Employees of Comfort Keepers-Fairfax at Open Kitchen with Chefs Hughes and Wilson after having competed in an Iron Chef type exercise June 11 to learn about preparing nutritious and delicious meals for the elderly seniors they serve.

FALLS CHURCH, Va., June 17, 2011.Caregivers employed by Comfort Keepers-Fairfax competed in an Iron Chef style event on June 11, at Open Kitchen   in Falls Church to learn about preparing nutritious meals for the senior citizens whom they serve.

The three-course meals prepared by the teams were judged by:  Ms. Virginia Senior America 2011 First Runner Up Kathy Fanelli; Attorney Judith A. Mitnick of Needham, Mitnick and Pollack; and Dietician Diane LaHaie, RD, CSG,LDN.

According to Ms. LaHaie, who gave a short presentation at the event about nutrition, elderly seniors have nutritional needs that differ from the needs and appetite of their youth.  Many of these folks are on dietary restrictions or their taste buds or appetite has changed, presenting a caregiver with challenges for meal preparation.
