Vineyards in AustriaA letter from Gabe Pica, Open Kitchen's wine expert, while on his travels to the vineyards of Austria

 

 

 

Dear Open Kitchen Team:,Wine Lunch in The Cellar

It has been an amazing trip. We have been tasting twenty to thirty wines per day, (that's not as easy as it sounds)  then drinking the wines with the fabulous lunch and dinners the wine makers and their families have prepared. Lots of walkingworking in the Vineyards through the vines, checking for damage, doing some late pruning and looking at the general conditions.

 

 

The wine makers are getting ready to bottle some of the 2010 vintage, while monitoring the other wines that will be bottled later on. It is a very hands on procedure with these families of wine makers. Most of the vineyards have been in Wine Cellarthe same family for decades and many generations. The families of these selected wineries work tirelessly, it is a true labor of love. I will be back to share my knowledge, experiences and of course the wine.  

Looking forward to the wine dinwine dinnerner on the 6th.
