Vietnamese Lunar New Year  Tasting Dinner

I invite you to join Open Kitchen for a very special evening to celebrate the
Vietnamese Lunar New Year  2011 ("Tet") -  The Year of the Cat (or "Rabbit" in the Chinese version).  

This event holds a unique place in my heart as it was 36 years ago that my youngest brother, Viet, was born, and it was that same year that my family and I left Vietnam for a new life in America.  Much has changed during these years, but one thing remains constant - the comfort and joy  of traditions and sharing a meal with family and friends.

This special menu consists of dishes that have been shared within my family both in Vietnam and now here in the States - these recipes have been handed down and evolved with time and new experiences. 

It is now my pleasure to share it with my Open Kitchen family and friends.

"Cha Gio" - Vietnamese  Crispy Spring Roll filled with Ground Pork, Shitake Mushroom, Jicama, Carrots, and Glass Noodles served with Nuoc Cham,  a Vietnamese Traditional Dipping Sauce

First Course
"Sup Mang  Cua" - White Asparagus and Crab Meat Soup

Second Course
"Banh Tet" - Southern-Style Tet Rice Cake filled with Mung Bean Puree and Seasoned Pork
Wrapped in Banana Leaf served with Ginger and Anise Beef and an Assortment of Pickled Vegetables

Third Course
"Goi Xoai" - Green Mango and Grilled Shrimp Salad tossed in Vietnamese Lime and Mint Dressing topped with Roasted Peanuts and Crisp Shallots

Fourth Course
"Ca Hap" - Steamed Chilean Sea Bass with Ginger,
Shitake Mushroom, and Glass Noodles


Fifth Course
"Thit Heo Kho Nuoc Dua" - Pork Belly Braised in Coconut Juice
and Hard-Boiled Egg

served with Jasmine Rice and Picked Bean Sprouts

Sweet Finish

Candied Ginger,  Lotus Seeds, and Sweet Potato served with Glass of Moscato Bianco
