Meet Chef Ken
| Trained in classic French and inspired by his time in California, Europe, and South America, Chef Ken brings a wealth of experience. A DC native, Chef Ken embarked on his culinary journey when the farm-to-table movement was evolving on the West Coast. He believes in Open Kitchen's concept of healthy, fresh food and looks forward to interacting with our customers. If you have not already met Chef Ken, please be sure to stop in and say hello!

Fall is in the Air! And..... the Taste of Falls Church is right around the corner, this Saturday, September 11th, 10 am - 4pm
Having won "Top Restaurant" at last year's event, Open Kitchen will again be participating with our colleagues in this year's competition and hoping for a repeat win. Stop by, cheer us on and taste some yummy treats.

Monday, September 13th - Healthy Cooking: Southeast Asia Southeast Asia comprises the wonderful cuisines of Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and many more. By combining fresh vegetables, legumes and grains together with robust sweet, salty and spicy flavors, the food of Southeast Asia has a character all its own. And to make it healthy, as well as quickly, is not only easy, but can be done without sacrificing any flavor at all!

Sometimes you have the house to yourself, and you want to do something more than just ordering pizza or microwaving a burrito. This class will teach you some fun, simple and easy dishes you can make for yourself any time, and that you don't need a crowd around you to help you make - or enjoy! Wednesday, September 15th - Coming Out of the Shell - Intro to Shellfish The world of seafood is one that many people like to learn more about when cooking. But a fascinating subset of this is the use of shellfish and the many dishes that can be made from these succulent bivalves. It's more than just raw oysters and fried clam strips. There is so much that can be done with shellfish, and this class will introduce you to selection and innovation in this area.

Monday, September 20th - Bread and Soup: The Perfect Comfort Food
There's nothing better than a meal of a warm bowl of soup accompanied by a fresh, hot loaf of bread. This class will teach the basics of making both of these. Start off by learning the basics of bread making as you master the skills of Open Kitchen's famous focaccia, and while that's rising, learn how to make some fabulous soups to accompany your bread from Katharine Mardirosian, Owner of "100 Bowls of Soup." It's a soul-warming class that will teach you all you need to know for the coming winter months! Wednesday, September 22nd - September in Sevilla - The Tapas of Southern Spain The origin of tapas comes from bars placing small plates on top of wine glasses to keep the fruit flies away. On these "tapas," they would place little bits of food to attract patrons to their bars. Learn the secrets of these little bites of Spain as you make a meal to enjoy and share with others! Tuesday, September 28th - Easy Weeknight Dinners In this very practical class, you will end the question of what's for dinner tonight. Using the concept of pantry cooking, you will learn from our "mock" pantry set up what products to always have on hand to prepare foods in a jiffy. You will learn secrets of kitchen organization and clever time saving techniques that there will be no excuses to not eat home anymore. And best of all, the techniques you will learn are easy and healthy. We'll set up a "mock" pantry with all kind of staple food items and take the students through it so they can learn how to set up their kitchens properly

| Does your spouse, friend, or partner
love to cook, but you just love to eat? Well you can now join them
at the end of their cooking class and savor the menu they have
prepared. Open Kitchen has launched our Dine-Only
Cooking Class Participation for individuals affiliated with the students
taking our classes.
For just $25.00 you will be able to join your student one hour before
the end of the class and sit down to the meal prepared by the students.
Your meal is accompanied by one glass of wine, with additional beverages
available for purchase. Pre-registration is required to attend so we
can be sure to make enough food for everyone. And please note that all
Class & Event Policies apply to all guests, eg. registration,
cancellation, dress code, etc.
