"It's Easy Being Green!"
April showers bring May flowers! April also brings us the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22nd. As the only restaurant in Falls Church (and one of two restaurants in Fairfax County) to hold a Virginia Green Certification, Open Kitchen has put into practice our own Recipe for Green, using standards established by Virginia Green, that influences every aspect of our business. From food and wine to paint, power, and waste hauling, Open Kitchen is committed to local, organic and sustainable environmental practices. For example, our disposable items (cups, to-go containers, utensils, etc) are eco-friendly and we also recycle coffee grounds and wine bottle corks. These actions are our contribution toward offsetting the restaurant industry's ecological footprint and creating a more sustainable Earth for future generations to come. This month, in honoring Mother Earth, we are launching our Recipe for Green Discount* each time you contribute to our efforts to be eco-conscious. Here are a few ideas.- Bring your own to-go bag
- Provide your own to-go container
- Provide your own coffee mug
- Walk, skateboard, roller blade or bike to Open Kitchen
- Take the Metro, ride the bus or drive a Hybrid to Open Kitchen

We've been planting herbs like basil, thyme, rosemary and mint that our chefs will use, as well as fresh edible flowers such as marigolds and pansies. Our terrace is ready for lunch Mondays through Saturdays and dinner Thursdays through Saturdays.
- Earth-Friendly Foods - Everyday!
Come out and enjoy our everyday menu that includes foods that are local, organic and sustainable as well as earth-friendly foods on our daily specials made with sustainable seafood, organic proteins and farmers market vegetables. We will also feature a beer special of our Southern Tier 422 from Southern Tier Brewing Company in Lakewood NY. Southern Tier 422 is brewed as a tribute to preserving our planet and it's environment with all natural ingredients. It is responsibly packaged with over 80% recycled consumer products and is completely recyclable.

A Generous Community Spirit Along with being an eco-forward establishment, at Open Kitchen you'll find we have great food and a great atmosphere mixed with a generous community spirit. Since we opened our kitchen six months ago, we've donated over $3,000 to local charities and worthy causes such as Falls Church Education Foundation, The Children's Inn at NIH, CrisisLink, CrossLink, and local area schools/PTA fundraisers, Food & Friends, as well as global causes such as to the victims of the Haiti earthquake. We thank all of our guests and supporters who have contributed to our ability to be a caring community.
