Helping you live a toxin-free life
AshleyNow that we are well into the new year, the New Year gimmicks are behind us, and we find it time to settle into the realities of day-to-day  life.   Ah, this life, varied from one moment to the next, and so are the toxins.   For this reason, the theme for  February is overall  good health.   We live with many forms of toxins.   It is not easy to stay ahead of them.  As I research, it could become discouraging, but I find it to be just the opposite --- it is exciting and encouraging!

Research is under way, focus groups see a need and they meet it, and
all of us are more aware of our health.   We have never had more
information available to us than we do now.   It is a time when we can
help ourselves.   This newsletter is designed for that purpose  -- to help
guide you in the directions you seek.

It is my hope you will find some information you can use.  Recently, on
Valentine's Day, you celebrated the love that lives within your heart .
Is there a better reason to seek and live a healthy life than for your future
and for those you love?

My warmest wishes for your health and happiness,

Pam

"Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days,
and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.   Then, let our countenance be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.  And at the end of  ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat."
Daniel 1: 12 - 16

Toxins &
Movie Theaters

During the 1918 Influenza Pandemic, movie theaters in all major cities were closed due to the
concern of
spreading
infectious diseases.

Theaters are filled with people who are ill and children's
movies carry the highest rate of exposure to illnesses.

How often do you hear someone
coughing or sneezing in a closed up theater?

Screening rooms are seldom opened to
 fresh air.

A new patron sits in the cushioned seats,
 showing, after showing.
 These seats are
seldom sanitized.

Studies have proven,

movie goers are known for not washing their hands in the restroom.   They are in
a hurry to get back to the movie or in a rush to get out to the parking lot.

 Restroom

stall door handles and/or locks, are highly contaminated.
 Handle with
 tissue or paper towels.

Be aware as you eat  snacks in the movie.  Use a hand sanitizer.

If you go out to
eat after the movie
(or anytime for that matter)

Remember,
many diners have
handled the
menus, and the
salt/pepper
 shakers.

Use your hand
sanitizer after
handling these
objects and before
 you eat from the
bread basket or
your meal.

 Good News!

Healthy Water

Researchers at
University of Michigan
have created
paper strips which can test
water for toxins.
This is a quick test,
will be available for
home use, and is
expected to be further
developed to test
food.
Watch for more
news about this.
 An exciting
development for
safer water
throughout the
world!

Caution
 "Going Green"

When building  with
recycled products,
especially wood,
you increase your
chances of mold.
There is a danger
that previous water
damage has been
transferred to your
recycled wood.
It is advised not
to use this type
wood in baths,
kitchens,
 or outside walls.
Going green
does increase the value
of a house
 10 - 15% !
A consideration
for the future
as it becomes more
and more popular.

Food Dyes

Yoplait Trix Wildberry Blue Yogurt is colored with Blue 1 and Red 40. Kraft's Macaroni & Cheese contains Yellow 5 and Yellow 6. Pepsi and Coke use caramel color. If you and your kids are consuming prepackaged and processed food, chances are you're eating and drinking food coloring, be it natural (pigments derived from plants or animals) or artificial (synthesized in a lab). Any food dye that is used in the U.S. has had to pass muster with the FDA, but some of our approved dyes have been outright banned in Europe. So are these added colorings truly safe?  Verdict.......

Artificial Colorings: Two British studies have found that artificial food dyes, in tandem with the preservative sodium benzoate, cause hyperactivity and other behavior problems in many children. And studies have suggested that Blue 1, Blue 2, Green 3, Red 3, and Yellow 6 all can cause cancer. Artificial food dyes have been blacklisted in the U.K. and parts of Europe, but not here. In the U.K, a McDonald's strawberry sundae gets its color from strawberries, while in the U.S. the sundae's color is from Red 40. Be on the safe side and avoid artificial colorings altogether.

Beta-Carotene: Beta-carotene, which the body converts to Vitamin A, is used to give an orange-yellow tint to such foods as margarine, breakfast cereals, and some beverages. It is a natural compound often derived from algae, and is safe when used as a coloring.

Electronic Cigarettes

The Food and Drug Administration has announced a warning on electronic cigarettes, also known as "e-cigarettes," after a lab analysis found that they contain carcinogens and toxic chemicals.
E-cigarettes are battery-operated devices that generally contain cartridges filled with nicotine, flavor, and other chemicals that are inhaled by the user.

Makers and retailers state that e-cigarettes are not in fact cessation aids, but rather a "healthier" alternative to cigarette smoking, which downplays the harmful effects of nicotine.

Consumer Union Medical Adviser, Orly Avitzur, MD. " I've yet to see medical evidence that proves that they help people stop smoking. They are a case of a wolf in sheep's clothing; the flavors are devised to appeal to kids, some of whom become dependent and go on to seek out cigarettes with higher nicotine content."

Consumers, report any adverse effects as a result of using
e-cigarettes to the FDA's Medwatch program.
