What joy to
celebrate the month of love!
Our thoughts turn to romantic love, but other forms of love touch our daily lives.
There are many who give to us in a loving manner, and it is our tribute to love in giving back to those who show us love as well as those who seek it.
If you want to count your blessings, name those who come to mind when you think of acts of love. It will bless your heart, but why stop there? Let them know you thought of them.
And----- I --- thought of you.
From my loving heart,
Pam
Valentine
Originally, lace
handkerchiefs
& floral bouquets
represented Valentine's Day.
Ladies dropped their handkerchief in front of a gentleman. If he
picked up the handkerchief, he could then ask her name.
Red roses are symbols of passion and love.
Also, the favorite flower of Venus, the Goddess of Love was the red rose.
Doves are symbolic because they mate for life and both of them care for all their babies.
An "X" symbolizes love because in the days when many could not read or write, an "X" represented their signature, then kiss it to show themselves trustworthy.
Love knots are symbols of everlasting love--
winding loops --
no beginnings or
ends.
Have a happy, and healthy
Valentine's Day,
basking in the
love which is
all around us.
Seek it, give it,
live it.

Helping You Live a Toxin-free Life |

Heart Month
It was once believed the heart was the source of all human emotions. At that point in time, it was an organ no one had seen. A sketch was introduced to signify the heart and that sketch became the symbol for love today.
A recent study showed that life expectancy is
5 months longer when environmental toxins are diminished. If that is for all toxins, imagine
the impact if a person can reduce toxins which pose deterioration of their specific health issues.
Here are some toxins which have a direct impact on the health of your heart. For those who have
specific heart conditions, this is important information.
Perfluorochemicals (PFCs) Found in jackets, carpets, furniture, and personal care products.
Phthalates found in personal care products.
Triclosan, an ingredient in antibacterial sopas and detergents that emits chloroform gas when combined with chlorinated water.
Benzene, a petrochemical found in tobacco smoke, gasoline, exhaust, and industrial emissions.
A name that ends in "-cide" is a long-lasting
chemical, to be avoided.
Remember to read labels and think
organics or alternatives.

Traditional Gifts
Go Toxin-free
"Chocolate" -- Just the mention of the name and the eyes of women sparkle ---for good reasons.
Chocolate is made from plants, which means it contains many of the health benefits of dark vegetables, from flavonoids which act as antioxidants. They protect us from aging caused by free radicals, which can cause damage that leads to heart diseae. Dark chocolate (at least 65%) contains nearly 8 times the number of antioxidants found in strawberries. Flavonoids also help relax blood pressure, lower cholesterol, stimulate endorphin production which gives a feeling of pleasure, contain serotonin which acts as an anti-depressant, and contain stimulants.
However, chocolate still has a high fat and caloric count, therefore, about 3 1/2 ounces should be considered a maximum serving for the day. Drinking milk with chocolate can destroy the health benefits. Most of all think Organic, so you will not risk toxins from pesticides and fertilizers used growing the chocolate plants. Be forewarned: once you taste the organic chocolate, you will not want to go back to the non-organic. The organic is delicious!
Flowers
There are florists which offer organic flowers. These will be without pesticides or fertilizers, which will be brought into the home.
Also, there are house plants which absorb toxins in the air. A healthy alternative to flowers. Some of the plants are Spider Plant, Chlorophytum comosun, and Philidendron sp.(This plant itself is poisonous. Caution with pets) These plants clean formaldehyde from the air.
For removing Benzene, a common solvent in many items, such as gasoline, inks, oils, paints, plastics and rubber, the following plants are effective: Ivy, gerbera, daisies, pot mums, peace lily, bamboo palm, and Mother-in-law's Tongue.
One more note concerning flowers. My husband and I can no longer tolerate the fragrance of roses or fresh flowers, but we miss not having them in our home. We purchase a single rose, place it in a bud vase and keep it on the top shelf in the refrigerator. It is nice to see it when we open the door, it remains fresh approximately 2 weeks, we still enjoy it and have no allergic reactions.
Cards and Letters
Why not consider writing a note or letter to someone instead of a card from a store. You can use acid-free paper, acid-free and lead-free ink, with no concern for the dyes used in the graphics. Besides, it will be more personal and a meaningful keepsake.
As you Dress.......
This is a good time for me to mention a filter on
your shower sprinkler. They are economically priced and usually simple to self-install. However, the benefits are overwhelming. Your skin, and then your body, absorbs more water in a shower than you drink in a day. Filters can take out 90% of the toxins that will go directly to your skin. However, a filter should be designed so it will not take away the minerals your skin and body needs. Do a little research to select a brand you like and invest in your health. This is a simple and relatively inexpensive way to make a significant change to reduce toxins in your life.
Dry Cleaning
I cannot stress enough the harshness of the toxins used in the dry cleaning process. Oganic dry cleaners should not be any more expensive than traditional cleaners. Check your local listings and switch to an organic dry cleaner.
Breath Freshener
For your Valentine kisses, instead of mouth washes which contain ingredients we need to avoid, Stevia CONCENTRATE, diluted with water makes a safe, home remedy mouth rinse and breath freshener. (It needs refrigeration, though) Unlike other mouth washes, you can swallow this one, giving you the health benefits of Stevia. (antibacterial agents, lowers blood pressure, inhibits the development of plaque and cavaties, anti-diabetic agent) For years I have used SweetLeaf brand. It is sold in stores or on the Internet. www.Sweetleaf.com

Ephesians 4: 1-3 (New American Standard Bible)
"I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." |
