Brydon's podiums highlight weekend

A victory in the men's super-G by Manuel Osborne-Paradis last week and Emily Brydon's second and third in the women's downhills Friday and Saturday matched the host team's best performance at Lake Louise World Cups.

"Everybody knows we are contenders,'' Canadian women's coach Patrick Riml said. "Not just Emily - we have several girls out there that can really be on the podium, and that makes everybody feel really confident and really comfortable."

Janka dominates GS, but Roy, Frisch score

Swiss dynamo Carlo Janka won his third straight men's World Cup race at Beaver Creek Sunday, nabbing the giant slalom victory to increase his lead in the overall standings. Canadians Jean-Philippe Roy finished the day in 17th, and Jeffrey Frisch 21st, to score valuable World Cup points. "Both Jeffrey and Jean-Philippe skied really well and at their level for the second run," coach Paul Kristofic said. "The team is pretty happy with today's race, we had reasonable results. Manny had a really good first run and was close to qualifying for the second run."

Moguls stars shine in Europa Cup

With the first World Cup moguls event scheduled for next Saturday in Suomo, Finland, the Canadian women's moguls team had an auspicious debut this weekend, with a remarkable five podium finishes in two Europa Cup events.

Canada's Chandra Crawford might have not won the race, but she had reason to smile after a 12th-place finish in a skate-ski sprint race at the World Cup in Duesseldorf, Germany, on Saturday. She officially punched her ticket to Vancouver.
Big strides for biathlete Le Guellec

Canada's Jean-Philippe Le Guellec took another huge stride forward in his quest to be the first Canadian male to win a World Cup medal in biathlon after finishing 12th in the men's sprint competition Saturday in Oestersund, Sweden.
