It was a solid weekend for Canadian snowsports - riders, racers and freestylers racking up more than a
dozen top-10 finishes over the last three days in World Cup or World Championship action. Impressive.

But it was the XC crew that reeled in perhaps the most coveted piece of hardware - a bronze in the men's team sprint (Alex Harvey and George Grey) on Sunday at Whistler Olympic Park - that was Canada's first-ever medal in this event. ps: it was a seriously reduced field with only 37 men racing compared to the normal 80 or 90 for WC races in Europe.

But it was a fitting pre-Olympic moment for the Canadian team and young Harvey, son of the Canadian cross-country legend Pierre Harvey, in front of a decent crowd of a few thousand. And considering this result was not the only highlight for the Canuck skinny ski warriors (four finished in the top-12 on Saturday,  led by Russian-turned-Canadian Ivan Babikov and veteran Sara Renner, who both finished sixth in the distance pursuit).

2010 will be a different story but the XC team gave Canadians a tantalizing preview.
