Clean Water Network e-News
What's a Little Rain Between Friends?
Good News: The rain predicted on Earth Day will help relieve our area drought! The even better news is the Float-In Earth Day Celebration will go on, RAIN OR SHINE! The event will be indoors (and outdoors where possible) at the historic pump house located at 1st and Potomac Avenue SE in Washington DC. Weather permitting we will still try to do as much outside as we can. Come prepared with umbrellas, ponchos and good cheer! It would take a lot more than a little rain to stop us from celebrating the 40th Birthday of the Clean Water Act, and from fighting to protect our nation's waters!
Washington Post LINK to Earth Day events including the Float-IN:
We received quite a few comments about our masterpiece of a limerick below. We invite you to send us your limerick or alternatively sonnet suggestions. The winner will get a special prize at the FLOAT-IN.
CWN's FLOAT-IN Limerick:
There once was a man from Washington
In search of the latest splash in town
A clean water fan
To the metro he ran
To join our Earth Day Float-ashington [sorry about that, nothing really rhymes with Washington]
FLOAT-IN made EZ:
Event takes place RAIN OR SHINE. If the weather is not perfect outside on Sunday we will take the fun indoors, inside the historic Pump House. We also highly recommend that you either boat, walk, bike, take metro or carpool to the event. It could not be easier to use the metro! The Nationals are having a game earlier that afternoon and parking will be difficult. You can also park a little further away and enjoy a nice walk to the event! Click here for Directions.
3. The Washington Nationals, Restaurant Nora, Trader Joe's, Nina's Dandy, Landmark Cinema, Washington Capitals, DC United, the Spy Museum, the Kennedy Center, Pacers Running Stores, Pinkberry and a host of others are donating items to the Clean Water Network's Earth Day Raffle.

(4) 2012 Clean Water Champion Awards will be given out during the Float-IN Earth Day, to four individuals and two organizations. These individuals and organization have gone above and beyond to protect our nation's waters across the country. Please join us on Sunday, April 22, in recognizing these very deserving individuals and organizations! The organizations that will be recognized include:
Disabled Sports USA and Team River Runner.
Both organizations are being recognized for their mutual support of clean water and rivers for our Wounded Warriors, disabled veterans, and all American citizens to enjoy and continue to protect.
Team River Runner (TRR) began in 2004 in Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The group focuses their program on Wounded Warriors, disabled service members, and their families. Since beginning our adaptive and therapeutic kayaking programs, we have grown to more than 30 locations across the nation. Paddling is a sport that has positive social, physical, and emotional benefits. From quiet paddling on calm flat-water for peace and connection to nature, to paddling exciting and demanding whitewater, TRR can develop a paddling program wherever there is water, participants, and volunteers. TRR strives to enlist participants, the wounded and disabled service members, as the leadership within each program. This gives our participants purpose, and the opportunity to help others, which is another healing benefit of our program. TRR also has regular paddling programs that families can be involved in, helping struggling families reconnect as well.
