FYSH Demo Ball - Thurs., November 10

What do you get when you put hockey, football, polo, and basketball in bumper cars?
The game is Demolition Ball. It is played in a supercharged bumper car with two five-player teams. The object: To shoot a whiffle ball through a 16" circular goal using a track ball scoop.
Demolition Ball creates a unique opportunity for people of various ages and athletic abilities to face off in some fast-paced fun while bonding with friends.
This is a great way to unwind before Thanksgivi ng and Finals madness.

Takkana Social Justice Initiative:
Seeding a Sustainable Future
Jan. '12-Nov. '12, Trip to Muchucuxca, Mexico May 2012
 If your vision of social justice moves you to get out into the world to be an agent of social change, the Takkana Initiative is for you. Participants will learn about the pressing issues of our time including environmental sustainability, food sovereignty, community greening and what it takes to feed our world. As part of this initiative, students will have hands-on opportunities to work in a traditional Mayan community in Mexico, be a part of a new educational garden in a St. Louis public school, and engage with local and national leaders.

Spring Break Service Trip to Alabama
Be a part of St. Louis Hillel's exciting new collaboration with JDRC. Students will volunteer alongside the Hillels of Metro Detroit, NYU and George Washington University in a week of work with Habitat for Humanity assisting communities in Alabama who were affected by the tornadoes.

Annual National Union for Jewish LGBTQ Students Conference
The conference, hosted by the American University Hillel in Washington, DC, will be held February 17-19, 2012. The mini immersion experience has been happening annually since 1997, has nearly 1000 alumni and is a great way to engage students in a sense of community beyond their campus that can bring them back to campus energized. Campuses are welcome to send a cohort of students or individual students.

Etgar 36, a summer travel program for Jewish teens, is looking for staff. Etgar 36 offers cross-country journeys in which teens develop their American and Jewish identities as well as become empowered to get involved politically and socially. As a staff member, you will be able to see America, help develop the future leadership of the American and Jewish community, and get paid. Previous work with youth and involvement with youth groups/summer camps a plus. Applicants should be in a good physical shape, and have a passion for history, politics and activism.

Yiddish Book Center: Steiner Summer Program
The program offers matriculating college students a unique opportunity for a tuition-free, seven-week intensive course in Yiddish language and culture. Beginning and intermediate students will be immersed in language study, and will also study the history, literature, culture and music of the Jews of Central and Eastern Europe.

A panel of rabbis will discuss The God Upgrade: Finding Your 21st Century Spirituality in Judaism's 5,000-Year-Old Tradition by Rabbi Jamie Korngold, at the Brodsky Library. The event is co-sponsored by the library, CAJE, St. Louis Rabbinical Association and JCC-Jewish Book Festival, as part of the St. Louis "Big Jewish Community Read." The panel will include Rabbis Jim Bennett, Randy Fleisher, Josef Davidson and Seth Gordon, with facilitator Rabbi Brad Horwitz. Rabbi Korngold will be appearing at the Jewish Book Festival on Sunday, November 13 at 10:00am.
The program will be held at the Jewish Federation Kopolow Building, 12 Millstone Campus Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146. Reservations are required by October 31.

Join college students from across North America as they explore the origins and expressions of Jewish Comedy in a presentation by the American Jewish Archives, "Two Rabbis Walk Into a Bar: A weekend's exploration of Jewish humor." The event will take place at the historic Cinncinati campus of the Hebrew Union College.
Program cost of $100 includes all meals, lodging, programming and social events. Scholarships are available for travel.

The Holocaust Memorial Lecture titled, "The Moral Complexity of the Child Soldier 'Problem'" will feature David Rosen, an anthropologist at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
