Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly

November 6-8, 2011 - Denver, CO 


Interested in a prestigious, once-in-a-lifetime leadership opportunity? Join St. Louis Hillel's student delegation to the General Assembly! The GA is the premier conference for all Jewish community leaders throughout North America. It inspires and engages current and emerging Jewish leaders by tackling the critical issues of the day and showcasing the best of the Jewish Federation movement. There will also be special student sessions and each St. Louis college area student will be paired with a seasoned leader as a mentor.
 

St. Louis Hillel will cover the $225 student rate (includes registration, most meals and a two night stay in triple occupancy). Participants need to cover travel.

Want to take your leadership to the next level? Interested in working with other committed Jewish leaders from around the country in setting St. Louis Hillel's policy and direction? Apply to serve on St. Louis Hillel's national Board of Directors!

Applictions are now being accepted for 6 student positions on the St. Louis Hillel Board of 2011-12: 3 Wash U undergraduates, 1 Wash U grad student, 1 Saint Louis University undergrad or grad student, and 1 undergrad or grad student from any other St. Louis area college. 

There is also 1 college student position available on the Jewish Federation of St. Louis Board of Trustees.

Yiddish Book Center: Steiner Summer Program

The program offers matriculating college students a unique opportunity for a tuition-free, seven-week intensive course in Yiddish language and culture. Beginning and intermediate students will be immersed in language study, and will also study the history, literature, culture and music of the Jews of Central and Eastern Europe.

Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) Grants

The CEF provides support for graduate, professional and undergraduate students for civic engagement and community service projects in the U.S. and abroad. Funding amounts vary up to $500. Grants are available for both individuals and groups.

The deadline is October 7th, 2011 by 5pm.

Jewish Community Relations Council of St. Louis seeks Applicants for the 2011-2012 Academic Year MAZON Hunger Fellow The fellow will work approximately 15 hours per week from mid to late September 2011 through May 2011 and engage in anti-hunger activism in the St. Louis community. The Fellow selected will arrange a specific work schedule with his or her supervisor at the JCRC. Taste of St. Louis Service
Want to make a difference in the local community? Learn how you can support social change as a volunteer, intern and more!

The Taste of St. Louis Service event will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 4-6pm in College Hall, on the South 40 residential area of the Danforth campus. Over 30 community organizations will participate for the fair (4-5pm) and two sets of roundtable discussions (5-6pm) about critical social issues, from K-12 education to community health. Enjoy refreshments that are uniquely St. Louis and raffle prizes.

Do you want to explore a new field? Are you interested in learning more about work in politics or the government?

The Gephardt Institute for Public Service and the Career Center are sponsoring the annual Government and Public Policy Career Days on Tuesday, September 27th and Wednesday, September 28th.  Events include Lunch with a Pro featuring the Corporation for National Community Service (CNCS), a panel discussion with the CIA, the CNCS, and Monsanto. There will also be dedicated Information Session with the CIA.

On Wednesday, explore political career paths with speakers from Congress and students with political internship experience. The "Finding and Applying to Federal Internships and Jobs" event will provide tips on searching, applying for these types of internships and positions.

Join artist Tanya Fredman for a hands-on art workshop, "Renewed like the Moon: Exploring Time in Jewish Texts", at the Brodsky Library.  The workshop will combine art making with discussion of Jewish texts, and participants will create their own collages exploring ideas of sacred time in Jewish calendar.

Join college students from across North America as they explore the origins and expressions of Jewish Comedy in a presentation by the American Jewish Archives, "Two Rabbis Walk Into a Bar: A weekend's exploration of Jewish humor."  The event will take place at the historic Cinncinati campus of the Hebrew Union College.

Program cost of $100 includes all meals, lodging, programming and social events.  Scholarships are available for travel.
