-- Ta Shma: Come and Learn! - A Daughter's Recitation of Kaddish
Tuesday, May 3, 7:30pm, Bais Abraham Congregation (6910 Delmar Blvd.)
The recitation of the mourner's kaddish for a deceased parent stands at the heart of the Jewish bereavement experience, motivated by a strong sense of parental honor and duty. While traditionally this public recitation has been seen as the son's responsibility, the possibility of a daughter reciting kaddish for a deceased parent is not a modern concept. The halakhic literature speaks to questions which include: May a daughter recite kaddish? May she recite kaddish alone or only in conjunction with a man? Must she recite kaddish aloud or only quietly? Come learn the sources that address these questions, and more. Special Guest Speaker Sara Tillinger Wolkenfeld. Admission is free, and everyone (men and women alike) are welcome!
