Last Shabbat of the Year at Hillel

Come to St. Louis Hillel for the final Shabbat of the school year! There will be a special presentation of student awards during dinner. This year's award recipients are: Bennett Seftel, Stephi Blank, Sam Guzik, Jacob Siegel, Cara Staszewski, Renee Kramer, Hannah Rabinowitz, Eve Samborn, and Paula Sass. Don't miss this chance to say goodbye to the seniors at their last Shabbat at Hillel ever!

Deadline Approching for Grinspoon Internship
For the 2010-2011 academic year, the Israel on Campus Coalition will again select 35 campuses to participate in the Grinspoon Israel Advocacy Internship program, which offers a $1500 stipend to an intern who will spend 10 hours per week furthering the pro-Israel agenda on campus. Originally created in 2002, the Grinspoon Israel Advocacy Internship is an outstanding opportunity for student leaders to have a profound impact on their campus communities. Within one of the Internship's issue areas, Grinspoon Interns develop and implement a creative, ongoing, strategic, collaborative and impactful long-term initiative designed to change campus Israel culture tangibly. On campus, the Grinspoon Israel Advocacy Interns are a central force in promoting a positive Israel agenda and empowering their peers to become articulate Israel activists. The Hillel at the University of Pennsylvania in Philly has an opening for a Jewish Student Life Coordinator for the upcoming school year! There is a large and very active Jewish community based in the Hillel building and around campus. Penn Hillel is a mission driven organization that seeks to inspire a sense of confidence in student's own Judaism by empowering them with the skills, knowledge, and experiences to live meaningful Jewish lives. The Jewish Student Life Coordinator will work with involved and uninvolved student leaders to coach them, to enhance current Hillel community offerings and create new initiatives, as well as to help current student leaders grow and develop. The Jewish Federation of Chicago has a number of internships available for Wash U students still looking for work this summer. Each will last around 8 weeks, and comes with a $3,500 stipend for living, commuting, etc. Students who live in Chicago already and those not from Chicago will be equally considered. Students can apply online at the Career Center website - search the CareerLink database for "Jewish Federation" and upload a resume and cover letter. All applications will be forwarded to the Jewish Federation, and they will contact students for phone or in-person interviews as necessary. Devote a year to making global justice a focus of American Jewish life and identity - devote a year to living the mission of American Jewish World Service as the first annaul AJWS Presidential Fellow. This is a 12-month fellowship for a recent college graduate to accompany Ruth Messinger on her professional travel, including speaking engagements in Jewish communities throughout North America as well as the possibility of international travel associated with conferences, study tours or service trips.  The fellowship will begin mid/late August 2010. The Yahel Social Change Program is an exciting new 5-month service learning experience for young adults between the ages of 21 and 27. The program is based in the town of Gedera in Israel, and combines hands-on volunteer work with in-depth learning and immersion. Offered in collaboration with a grassroots non-profit organization working in the Ethiopian community in the fields of community empowerment and education, this is a unique opportunity to take part in meaningful and innovative social change efforts in Israel. Yahel participants live, volunteer and learn alongside young adults from the local Ethiopian-Israeli community. Substantial grants and scholarships are available through Masa Israel Journey. Arranged marriage, polygamy, female writers of Yiddish and Hebrew poetry, images of masculinity in the Midrash, gender in the Bible, and men and women in American Jewish culture-these topics and more form the subject matter of classes in Jewish Gender and Women's Studies at The Jewish Theological Seminary. Offered by The Graduate School of JTS, this unique interdisciplinary MA program appeals to students who are intrigued by questions about gender roles in contemporary Jewish communal life, Jewish history, and Judaism.
