We at St. Louis Hillel join in expressing deep sorrow for the victims of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti. We encourage students to participate in fundraising initiatives to assist the humanitarian relief efforts now underway.  There are various Jewish organizations worldwide participating in these efforts. The Brown School of Social Work is piloting a special course this summer for students who have an interest in the Jewish community, preparing to work in some capacity and/or following an academic path of study: Leadership and Advocacy in Diverse Jewish Communities. Please join us for an information session to visit with the Professor, Dr. Caryn Aviv, over Skype and enjoy a pizza lunch. This is your chance to learn about the course, the curriculum, meet Dr. Aviv, and ask your questions. BBYO (the world's leading pluralistic Jewish teen movement) will be admitting 10 to 12 professionals this spring into its Professional Development Institute (PDI), a three-year program where, in addition to doing leadership development work with Jewish teens and gaining valuable volunteer management skills by working with chapter advisors, participants will receive an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and a Certificate in Informal Jewish Education from Hebrew College in Boston. During the three years of the program, the participant will receive a full-time competitive salary while working for BBYO, health/retirement benefits, a professional mentor, travel opportunities and an MBA from a top 25 business school at no cost to the professional. MUSIC IN JEWISH CULTURE AND SOCIETY is a Spring semester course offering with seats still available! Taught by pianist and musicologist, Professor Assaf Shelleg, Music in Jewish Culture and Society (Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:00-11:30 am) offers a unique opportunity to study Jewish history through music - from reading the Torah to Jewish musical traditions in Islamic countries, Klezmer, music in Reform Temples, and much more. HILLELS AROUND CHICAGO is hosting the 7th Annual Midwest Russian Shabbaton and Taglit-Birthright Israel Alumni Retreat, Feb. 19-21 in Bloomingdale, IL. The theme for this year's retreat will be, "Home Away From Home: Where Do I Belong?" Participants will learn about Israel, meet others with similar backgrounds and interests, celebrate Shabbat, and gain a better understanding about our Jewish community. Participants must be Russian-speaking Jewish students and young adults between the ages of 18 and 30. The deadline to register is Feb. 7, and the cost will be $95. Register and pay online here.
 
CAREER ISRAEL is a five-month professional internship program open to college/university graduates from all over the world. The program provides internship placements in leading companies and organizations in the private and public sectors in Israel. WASH U SOCIAL CHANGE GRANTS provide funding and support for students to pursue innovative social change ideas and community projects. The funding is intended to help individuals and groups defray project and/or cost-of-living expenses, enabling students to devote full attention to the development and implementation of their projects without the need to pursue paid work. Funding can be used at the recipient's discretion to cover costs of the project, cost-of-living expenses, and/or in lieu of earnings during the summer or academic year. The Community Service Office provides mentorship and support to prospective grant applicants in the development of their project proposals, and to grant recipients in the implementation and wrap-up of their projects. THE ISRAEL PROJECT is offering a high-powered fellowship opportunity for some of the world's best and brightest college and graduate school students; graduates in journalism, communications, marketing or public relations programs; and those beginning their careers in journalism or Israel advocacy. Internships are available in Washington, D.C., and Jerusalem. Seven outstanding applicants will be accepted to the Washington, D.C., program, which runs from June 21 to August 20, 2010. Five outstanding applicants will be accepted to the English-speaking Jerusalem program, which runs from June 13 to August 12, 2010. We are also offering three paid fellowships for outstanding applicants who are native speakers of French, German or Spanish and who also speak excellent English, to work in our Jerusalem office. CALLING ALL ARTISTS! The Museum of ImaJewnation, opening in Spring 2010 at the JCC, will feature the works of professional artists and art enthusiasts of all ages. For the "Listening for Haman Sounding Out the Grogger" exhibit, artists are challenged to design groggers and imagine the sounds they make in response to enemies. CLEVELAND HILLEL FOUNDATION is sponsoring a paid summer internship program for college students who will be sophomores, juniors, and seniors in Fall 2010. Students are placed, based on skills and interests, at local businesses and non-profits for internships in various fields. Students have the opportunity to participate in social and educational programming with Hillel. Dates for the program are June 14 - August 6, 2010. An in-person interview is required for admission.
