Join us as we celebrate the start of Hanukkah, and light the menorah together with all your friends at Hillel this Friday! Shlomit Cohen, one of our JLIC Fellows, will host a Hanukkah Kick-Off beginning at 4:00pm where we will light candles, listen to a shiur, and play a dreidel game. And after services, we will enjoy a Hanukkah-themed dinner, featuring brisket, latkes, and jelly doughnuts. We hope to see you here!

Shabbat Dinner Forum

Every week, our community has the opportunity to come together and celebrate Shabbat. Please join us tonight for an important study break to discuss what you enjoy about the Shabbat experience at Hillel and what you would like to change. Free kosher pizza and snacks will be provided for dinner. We hope that you will join us in making the Shabbat experience at Hillel enjoyable for all students.

Hillel and JSU are each hosting menorah lightings throughout Hanukkah. We arranged them to be at different locations so that you have the option to attend whichever event is more convenient for you. In any case, we hope that you will take a quick study break and join us to light candles, say prayers, and enjoy some gelt!

ST. LOUIS HILLEL at Washington University is seeking a live-in caretaker beginning January 2010 through Summer 2011 with an option to renew at that time.  Job responsibilities include building oversight, light maintenance, and event set-up/clean-up for an average of 10-15 hours of work per week.  In exchange for work, Hillel will provide a one bedroom apartment on the premises with free rent, parking, and all utilities except for phone.  Candidates must be available for work daily, able to lift over 50lbs., and agree to work on Jewish holidays and Shabbat.  Examples of regular job functions include:  alarming building daily, trash/recycle collection, changing light bulbs, clearing walkways of snow/ice, set-up of tables and chairs for Shabbat dinner each week, and all other event set-ups and clean-ups as needed.  To apply, send a cover letter and resume to denise@stlouishillel.org.
 
WASH U SOCIAL CHANGE GRANTS provide funding and support for students to pursue innovative social change ideas and community projects. The funding is intended to help individuals and groups defray project and/or cost-of-living expenses, enabling students to devote full attention to the development and implementation of their projects without the need to pursue paid work. Funding can be used at the recipient's discretion to cover costs of the project, cost-of-living expenses, and/or in lieu of earnings during the summer or academic year. The Community Service Office provides mentorship and support to prospective grant applicants in the development of their project proposals, and to grant recipients in the implementation and wrap-up of their projects. THE YOUNG ZIONIST LEADERSHIP (YZL) Conference is fast-approaching! YZL gathers the most active students together in Miami, FL for a weekend of sessions to boost their activism, immerse themselves in Israeli culture, debate key issues, strengthen their overall ties to Zionism, and of course have some fun in the sun. CLEVELAND HILLEL FOUNDATION is sponsoring a paid summer internship program for college students who will be sophomores, juniors, and seniors in Fall 2010. Students are placed, based on skills and interests, at local businesses and non-profits for internships in various fields. Students have the opportunity to participate in social and educational programming with Hillel. Dates for the program are June 14 - August 6, 2010. An in-person interview is required for admission. BUSINESS IN ISRAEL - IB 400I is a course offering for the spring semester. The course will meet in the first half of the semester, studying about Israel, its history, culture, and various business industries. Over spring break, students will participate in a 10 day immersion trip to Israel for the class. Upon their return, students will work on research papers and a comparative analysis of the differences between industries in the US and Israel.  The trip will allow students to retain their Birthright eligibility.  The cost of the land portion of the trip is $2,070, which includes, transportation, hotels, meals, tour guides, and tips.  Students are responsible for their own airfare.
