She is a graduate of the Washington University School of Law and has extensive experience working on campaigns and on Capitol Hill. Elie Wiesel is an internationally renowned professor, writer, and activist. In 1960, his work Night was published and is now recognized as a landmark work in non-fiction. Night details Mr. Wiesel's personal experience of the horrors of the Holocaust and has become a cornerstone of educational courses worldwide. The SLU Greater Issues Committee is proud to bring Mr. Wiesel to St. Louis.

JOIN THE URABN LAND INSTITUTE for The Role of the University in the Region's Prosperity on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 4:00pm at the Missouri History Museum (5700 Lindell Blvd.). ULI will engage the leadership of four of the region's universities in responding to Joe Cortright's presentation on higher education's role in creating and sustaining thriving communities. Learn how St. Louis can better leverage these institutions as drivers of real estate and economic development. How can we retain and attract young professionals and the creative class; how can we benefit from investments made by the universities; how can we help make St. Louis the best place to live? $30 at the door for students with an ID.
THE JEWISH COMMUNITY RELATIONS COUNCIL has been awarded a grant from the Jewish Council for Public Affairs to fund a student intern for the second half of the fall semester and the full spring semester. It pays $2500 and the student works 12-15 hours a week (only half of that time has to be in the JCRC office; the rest could be from home) on anti-poverty programming for JCRC and on campus at Wash U. The student also gets to go to the annual Plenum of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs in Dallas in February. To apply, a student needs to be Jewish and a sophomore or junior. YESHIVAT HADAR WINTER LEARNING SEMINAR will be a week of intense Talmud Torah with some of America's most exciting teachers. Current university students with advanced textual skills (yeshiva background or equivalent) are welcome to apply. The program will run Jan. 11-14, 2010 at Yeshivat Hadar in New York City. BUSINESS IN ISRAEL - IB 400I is a course offering for the spring semester. The course will meet in the first half of the semester, studying about Israel, its history, culture, and various business industries. Over spring break, students will participate in a 10 day immersion trip to Israel for the class. Upon their return, students will work on research papers and a comparative analysis of the differences between industries in the US and Israel. The trip will allow students to retain their Birthright eligibility. The cost of the land portion of the trip is $2,070, which includes, transportation, hotels, meals, tour guides, and tips. THE MUSEUM OF IMAJEWNATION will be part of the JCC's grand opening of the Staenberg Family Complex Arts and Education Building in Creve Coeur scheduled for late February 2010. The ambition of the museum is to engage people's imagination and encourage their interaction with Jewish culture. Artists are challenged to create for display and possible sale works that respond to a specific question or theme. We will support their efforts with optional community workshops and classes to create a thriving environment for interactive learning and artistic expression. Thousands of community members are anticipated to view each exhibit. The first exhibit will celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim. Artists are invited to respond to the question: "Have you ever heard a sound that could ease an angry heart?"
