Phone-a-Thon is Underway!
Phone-a-Thon is going great, but we still need your help!! Phone-a-Thon is Hillel's largest annual  fundraiser, and it is not possible without you! Come have dinner (or lunch), enter some raffles, and of course make calls throughout Phone-a-Thon.
Are you part of a group on campus looking to earn fundraising dollars too? Sign up with people from your group and volunteer for a minimum of 2 hours, you will earn $7 per person per hour!!
The Phone-a-Thon schedule is as follows: Monday, Oct. 26 - Wednesday, Oct. 28: 5-9pm
Sunday, Nov. 1: 12-4pm
You must attend one training session prior to making calls. The remaining training sessions are Monday through Wednesday at 4:30 and 6:30pm, and Sunday at 11:30am and 2:30pm.

Takkana Social Justice Fellowship: Would you like to spend a week this May in the Dominican Republic performing community service? Have you ever thought it would be cool to learn more about how Judaism and social justice are connected? How about creating an impact on campus with your peers and bringing attention to a cause close to your heart? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then click here to apply for this amazing opportunity to tie your desire to give back to your life as a Jew. Selected students will commit to a full year (January-December) of learning, local service, programming and dialogue in addition to traveling to the Dominican Republic in May.
Hillel Uruguay Alternative Spring Break: An extraordinary opportunity to engage students in an unforgettable and highly enriching experience of social justice work in South America. It is Hillel Uruguay's answer to the call of many university students' desire to travel to South America and make a difference in the process! Participants will join students from their school (and possibly from other schools) for a week in which they will implement social justice projects and explore the magical city of Montevideo and its Jewish community. Yeshivat Torat Yosef - Hamivtar is sponsoring Shabbat lunch this Saturday. Students are invited to attend and meet Executive Director Rabbi Yair Spitz. For the past 30 years Yeshivat Torat Yosef - Hamivtar has been empowering young men to study Talmud and other classic Torah texts in a methodical and systematic way. Its renowned faculty gives each student the attention needed to grow intellectually and spiritually in a manner deeply respectful of individuality. The Community Service Office, the Gephardt Institute for Public Service, the Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, the Office of Undergraduate Research, and the Career Center are offering an information session to highlight the grants and stipends available to students who are looking for a way to help a community without foregoing an income over the summer. Each office will discuss individual funding opportunities, highlight award winners and projects from previous years, and there will be time for questions. Interfaith Shabbat brings people of all faiths together to experience a FREE Shabbat meal at Hillel. The night focuses on sparking dialogue between people of all different cultural and religious backgrounds. This year, it will be the culminating event of Pluralism Week. Want to get involved? We are looking for Resident Experts, knowledgeable students to sit at each table and answer questions about Jewish traditions and practices, as well as Student Facilitators to spark discussion. BUSINESS IN ISRAEL - IB 400I is a course offering for the spring semester. The course will meet in the first half of the semester, studying about Israel, its history, culture, and various business industries. Over spring break, students will participate in a 10 day immersion trip to Israel for the class. Upon their return, students will work on research papers and a comparative analysis of the differences between industries in the US and Israel. The trip will allow students to retain their Birthright eligibility. The cost of the land portion of the trip is $2,070, which includes, transportation, hotels, meals, tour guides, and tips. HILLEL'S SPRING ENGAGEMENT INTERNSHIP might be for you! Are you studying abroad in Buenos Aires in Spring 2010? Do you enjoy meeting new people? Are you looking for ways connect to BA's local culture? Then apply now to intern with Hillel's Global Campus Initiative (GCI). GCI Interns network with other Jewish study abroad students in Buenos Aires and build connections to local Jewish students through community service, holiday celebration, and other programs. THE MUSEUM OF IMAJEWNATION will be part of the JCC's grand opening of the Staenberg Family Complex Arts and Education Building in Creve Coeur scheduled for late February 2010. The ambition of the museum is to engage people's imagination and encourage their interaction with Jewish culture. Artists are challenged to create for display and possible sale works that respond to a specific question or theme. We will support their efforts with optional community workshops and classes to create a thriving environment for interactive learning and artistic expression. Thousands of community members are anticipated to view each exhibit. The first exhibit will celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim. Artists are invited to respond to the question: "Have you ever heard a sound that could ease an angry heart?" This exhibit challenges the artist to design a grogger and imagine the sounds that it can make. For complete entry guidelines, visit the JCC website.
THE JEWISH FUND FOR HUMAN NEEDS is the vehicle of the organized Jewish community for allocating grants to St. Louis grassroots social service organizations that respond to the most basic of human needs. The JFHN funds agencies that provide medicine for the uninsured, food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, accessibility for the disabled, support for foster children and job training for the unemployed. On Sunday November 1, the Borders store in Brentwood is holding a Book Fair to benefit the JFHN. Shop anytime between 10 AM and 9 PM, and fifteen percent of your purchase will go to the JFHN. ETGAR 36 is looking for Wash U students who enjoy travel, politics, history, and working with teens - and would like to get paid to do all four! Etgar 36, a summer travel program for Jewish teens, is looking for staff. Etgar 36 offers cross-country journeys in which teens develop their American and Jewish identities as well as become empowered to get involved politically and socially. As a staff member, you will be able to see America and help develop the future leadership of the American Jewish community - and you will get paid to do it. Previous work with youth and involvement with youth groups/summer camp a plus. Applicants must be rising juniors or older, and should be in good physical shape. THE CLEVELAND HILLEL FOUNDATION is sponsoring a paid summer internship program for college students who will be sophomores, juniors, and seniors in Fall 2010. The program will run June 14-August 6, 2009. Students are placed for internships based on skills and interests at local businesses and non-profits. Interns work four days per week and participate in educational and social programming with Hillel on Fridays. There are also opportunities for movie nights, concerts, restaurant dinners, and other events. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and the final application dealine is February 1, 2010. An in-person interview between November 1 and February 1 is required for admission.
