The Community Development Fellows (CDFs) will be there and so will some awesome free food, so make sure you pass through on your way back to your dorm.

Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry Donations
The JFP is one of the largest food pantries in the city, and they are in need! When their shelves are empty, that means a lot of people in St. Louis are going hungry. Hillel will be accepting donations in a marked bin in the Sukkah on the South 40 throughout Sukkot. Please consider donations of canned foods (which you may purchase at Bear Mart in the South 40 House), and especially tuna, peanut butter, nuts, and beans. Your help can make a difference!!

JEWISH COMMUNITY RELATIONS COUNCIL of St. Louis is currently seeking applicants for the position of 2009-2010 academic year MAZON Hunger Fellow to engage in anti-hunger and anti-poverty activism both on campus and in the larger community.  Fellow will work 12-15 hours per week from approximately November 1, 2009 through May 2010, with breaks for final exam periods and periods when school is not in session.  The Fellow selected will arrange a specific work schedule with his or her supervisor at the JCRC.  A stipend in the amount of $2500 will be provided to the Fellow.  Fellow also will travel to Dallas, Texas from February 20-23, 2010 to attend the 2010 Plenum of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.  Travel, lodging and registration for the Plenum will be paid for as part of the Fellowship.  Requirements: 1. Must be current sophomore or junior; 2. Must be willing to organize at least one program on campus to engage young Jews in an anti-poverty advocacy campaign or program; 3. Must be willing to organize a Hunger Shabbat program for college students; 4. Must have strong background and interest in social justice work.  Interested candidates should forward a resume, list of at least two references, and statement of interest no later than Monday, Oct. 12 at 11am  to Gail Wechsler, Director of  Domestic Issues/Social Justice at the JCRC of St. Louis.  Please submit application electronically to gwechsler@jcrcstl.org.  Applicants also should indicate three possible dates and times available to be interviewed during the week of Oct. 12, including at least one possible interview time during regular business hours, between 9am and 5pm.
 
AMNON RUBINSTEIN, a leading scholar on constitutional law in Israel, will discuss Western culture and Israeli law in free public lectures Oct. 5 and Oct. 6 at Washington University in St. Louis. Rubinstein, a longtime member of the Israeli parliament and founding dean of the nation's top-ranked law school, is a recipient of the prestigious "Israel Prize" for his work on constitutional law. THE HAZON FOOD CONFERENCE is the only place in the world where farmers and rabbis, nutritionists and chefs, vegans and omnivores come together to explore the dynamic interplay of food, Jewish traditions, and contemporary life. This year's conference runs Dec. 24-27 in Monterey Coast, CA. Programming highlights include: Modern Kashrut; Vegetarian Chef Round Table; Healthy Food for Healthy Kids; Culture and Identity, A Changing of Ethnic Foodways in Israel; Intro to Jewish Fasting; Jewish Female Farmers Panel; and more! DO THE WRITE THING: The Hagshama Student Program at the GA runs November 8 -11, 2009 in Washington, D.C.  Every year Hagshama gives 30-40 North American Jewish undergraduate and graduate students an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the international journalism world.  Students meet with Prime Ministers, Chiefs of Staff, Secretaries of State and some of the premier journalists from across the globe.  The focus?  Israel.  The Do the Write Thing program is a partnership between the Hagshama Department of the World Zionist Organization and the Israeli Prime Minister's office.  Each student receives a grant to cover all the expenses at the GA. KESHER FALL CONVENTION 2009 will be held October 23-25 at Indiana University.  Come spend the weekend in Bloomington with other Reform Jewish college students from all over the US and Canada!  Highlights of the event include: drafting the first ever Kesher Constitution; fun social activities such as laser tag and a BBQ; exciting workshops and programs; spirited Shabbat services and Havdallah experience; the chance to get to know dozens of college students from coast to coast. ETGAR 36 is looking for Wash U students who enjoy travel, politics, history, and working with teens - and would like to get paid to do all four! Etgar 36, a summer travel program for Jewish teens, is looking for staff. Etgar 36 offers cross-country journeys in which teens develop their American and Jewish identities as well as become empowered to get involved politically and socially. As a staff member, you will be able to see America and help develop the future leadership of the American Jewish community - and you will get paid to do it. Previous work with youth and involvement with youth groups/summer camp a plus. Applicants must be rising juniors or older, and should be in good physical shape. THE CLEVELAND HILLEL FOUNDATION is sponsoring a paid summer internship program for college students who will be sophomores, juniors, and seniors in Fall 2010. The program will run June 14-August 6, 2009.  Students are placed for internships based on skills and interests at local businesses and non-profits.  Interns work four days per week and participate in educational and social programming with Hillel on Fridays.  There are also opportunities for movie nights, concerts, restaurant dinners, and other events.  Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and the final application dealine is February 1, 2010. REGISTRATION FOR ASB 2010 is now open!
