Kerry Williams of Juba Lee Rhodesian Ridgebacks in Texas got our vote for snazziest lead. The pink leather number was a perfect match to her bitch special's name: Paris Hilton. Just tuck a Chihuahua under her arm, and she's all set.

"I can quiet a cafeteria"
Former schoolteacher Bill Sahloff, on how he can restore ringside to pin-drop silence in a matter of seconds

What we can only conclude is a haunted spot on the ring matting -- which, prophetically, was marked with a taped "X" -- took another victim today. Liz Demery of Sulawesi Ridgebacks in Michigan, who recently had a knee replacement, wiped out while gaiting around with her winning Field Dog.
After a few scarily still moments, Liz popped up, proclaimed "I'm all right," brushed herself off, and continued around the ring. Now that's a hard-core dog person.

Those folks who were convinced Bruce the Frenchie
would cinch our Honorable Ridgeback poll will be disappointed. In
competition against a Golden Retriever, baby Beagle, Dalmatian and
Saluki, Bruce was the smush-faced favorite. But, perhaps in retaliation
for his silence-shattering snorting during Bred By Dogs the other day,
he only garnered 25 percent of the vote.
The hands-down winner was Naim the Saluki, with 51 percent of the vote.
Rory the Beagle got 10 percent; Cooper the Dalmatian, 12 percent, and Smuggler the Golden, 2 percent.

We have two corrections from our previous results:
IN 11+ Veteran dogs, the winners were reversed: First place was Ch. Zareba's Big Kahuna (below), and second place was Ch. Khoikhoi Rhodian Veld Walker, SC.

In Best Ridge results, Best Overall ridge was won by Ch. Ridgeview's Belle du Jour (below).

Greetings!
Here we are in the final stretch: Best of Breed.
As with most National Specialties, the sheer number of specials - 71 male champions, and 48 females, not factoring in absentees - meant that dogs were judged in smaller groups, with cuts made in each.
In the end, nine dogs and six bitches were left standing, along with the Field and Veteran dogs. The final finger-pointing created some suspenseful moments, as Mrs. Hartinger ordered her Awards of Merit before pulling out her big winners.
Now, the winners have been named, the ribbons have been gently tucked away, and the remaining Ridgebackers have either settled into the bar or embarked into the long journey home.
We hope you enjoyed our National Specialty email "blasts." (If you missed any, visit our archive page at http://theridgebackregister.com/freeenewsletter.html.) And we invite you to partake of our Ridgeback stories and coverage year-round through our quarterly magazine, The Ridgeback Register.
Until next time, cherish your dogs.
