GATE CRASHER
Veteran Sweeps can be a perilous affair. Just ask Joe Piott of Kuwinda Rhodesian Ridgebacks, who piloted his beloved almost-15-year-old bitch "Rafiki" to a second-place win in her class. But en route to the placement, Joe took a header on the mats -- a repeat of his performance from last year. A quick-thinking Mary Lynn Elliston retrieved some ice from the bartender. Rafiki refused comment.

IN THE BAG
Speaking of Mary Lynn, she won the Best Accessory contest hands down with this canine clutch purse, complete with chewed nose and paws. "Those are honorable wounds," she explained. "That's what happens when Dachshunds venture among Ridgebacks."

A SHOE IN
Pat Hoffmann of New Jersey had some fancy footwork ringside with these leopard-ring clogs and matching socks.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
'What, did I break a window?'
- East Coast-based breeder who would probably prefer to remain anonymous, commenting on the whopping $30 cost of the Specialty catalog

Greetings!
The Ridgeback Register is at the 2009 RRCUS National Specialty,
covering this annual Ridge-o-rama with the same professionalism and spunk that
we do every year.
What's different in 2009? This electronic
newsletter, of course, which will give you daily updates on who's
winning, who's whining and who's letting it all hang out.
In
this first electronic missive, we take you to tonight's Veteran Sweepstakes competition, where the usual assortment of animal-print apparel was in high
gear. Who gets Best Dressed Honors? Scroll down to eyeball the eye
candy and vote for your favorite fashionplate!
If you have friends who would like to receive this daily electronic update, they can subscribe by clicking on the link below.
Until tomorrow, or the next Cosmopolitan, whichever comes first ...

Who was BEST DRESSED tonight? You vote!

Veteran Sweeps is the time for handlers and dogs to shine! Gabriele DiFranco of Gadico Rhodesan Ridgebacks was a vision in a gold wrap-around top and flowing black pants with sheer overlay. Red glasses added panache. CLICK HERE TO VOTE FOR GABRIELE!

Not to be outdone, professional handler Linda Clark opted for a sensationally safari-looking zebra-print jacket and matching shoes. No zoo animals died in the manufacturing of this outfit.

About the Sweeps Judge
Breeder-judge Ross Jonesof Cimarron Rhodesian Ridgebacksin Albuquerque, New Mexico, became involved in Ridgebacks 23 years ago. Together with his wife Cherie, he has earned titles on more than 40 Ridgebacks.
"I will always remember the first time I showed my puppy in the Sweeps ring (Rusty), how excited I was, and the last time I showed a Veteran (Tag) and how proud I was of him," Ross said in a bio printed in the show catalog. "I will try and do all I can to make the exhibitors and their dogs feel as I did on those two occasions."
Entering the ring in his gray cowboy hat, Ross was ever the gentleman, giving every exhibitor his or her due, and whittling down this generous entry to a handful of serious contenders. |
