| WHAT'S NEW! |
|
Roxie & I are extremely excited about the new service we are getting ready to roll out and you get to be the first to see a sneak preview! |
June 7 & 8 we attended the fourth installment in our Medical Massage Therapy training with David Morin. This class focused on the lumbar spine (low back) and the hips. WOW! We learned some great new techniques for helping to release restrictions and alleviate pain in this crucial area.
Much of what we've learned in these classes we have already adapted and use when the need arises in our Signature massage, but we are getting ready to offer these massage techniques in a brand new offering of body region specific Medical Massage Therapy.
Several things will be different about these 60-minute sessions:
1. Each session will begin with Assessment and Evaluation. We want to know what precipitated the pain and determine a base range to evaluate improvement.
2. Specific manual therapy will be applied to the affected area. This will not be a relaxing oil or lotion massage but techniques proven to release constricted tissue, increase circulation and improve movement.
3. Assisted Stretching. We will help you stretch; again this is to facilitate improved muscle & tissue function.
4. Home Exercise (homework). This is where you get involved! We will teach you specific exercises to help you help yourself.
5. These services will be performed while you are clothed in a loose fitting T-shirt and shorts. (You provide or we can supply.) This is so that we can have you get up and move and see how what we are doing is making a difference, as well as to make assisted stretches easier to perform.
6. Because these sessions are deigned to assist with pain reduction and/or elimination the suggested treatment rate is three times a week for a minimum of two weeks; or two times a week for a minimum of three weeks. Seeing you one hour a month or even one hour a week isn't going to get you ahead of the game of life anytime soon. However, with this more aggressive approach you will see measurable results.

| DID YOU HEAR THE ONE ABOUT... |
|
|
P-U-T or P-U-T-T?
The schoolteacher was taking her first golfing lesson.
"Is the word spelled p-u-t or p-u-t-t?'' she asked the instructor.
"P-u-t-t is correct,'' he replied.
"Put means to place a thing where you want it. Putt means merely a vain attempt to do the same thing."

| How Omega-3s Help Your Mind and Body |
Over 25,000 worldwide scientific studies show that long-term consumption of Omega-3 fish oils offer benefits to your heart, joint, and skin health as well as your memory. Recent studies show they can even improve your emotional well-being.
Heart and circulation Studies suggest that Omega-3 helps maintain healthy cardiovascular function and healthy circulation. Keeping your heart healthy can add years to your life. Omega-3 is also found to maintain healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Joints Studies suggest that EPA, one of the main components of Omega-3, can help the body to reduce inflammation, which may mean less joint pain. Grown-ups and kids who take Omega-3 regularly find it can help support healthy joints.
Sharper eyesight DHA, one of the main active ingredients of Omega-3, is one of the main building blocks for visual nerves and cells. It's a major component in retinal tissue and plays a role in photoreceptor cells, the parts of the eye that collect light.
Mental activity Studies suggest that Omega-3 contributes to brain and nerve cells, supporting mental activity. It can aid proper brain, eye, and central nervous system development in young children. Recent studies also show a positive effect on learning and concentration; a 2005 study (Richardson et al, The Oxford-Durham study, 2005.) showed over 40% of children significantly improving their reading and spelling abilities after regular doses of Omega-3. Omega-3 has also been shown to support mood and alleviate stress and tension.
Skin Studies suggest that Omega-3 can help build cells throughout your body, so it can help skin become stronger and healthier and may even help with sunburn and complaints like eczema.
Isn't Omega-3 in food? Nothing can replace eating healthy natural foods. Eating well is the starting point for mental and physical health. Omega-3 is only in certain types of food and it's one of the essential fatty acids that aren't made by the body. It's found in fatty fish such as salmon, herring, anchovies, mackerel, trout, and tuna but to get enough fish oils you would need to eat them several times a week. This won't work for everyone, especially if your kids aren't big fish fans! Plus if your normal diet is high in certain fats and acids common to a Western diet (found in meat and oils like soybean, sunflower, and safflower) it can affect how much Omega-3 your body gets from food. So it can be hard to make sure your family is getting enough-which means taking a nutritional supplement can help.
Kids and Omega-3 Studies suggest that in the very young, a lack of Omega-3 can affect how brain cells grow and communicate. And DHA (one of the main components of Omega-3) helps vital areas of our eyes to develop.
Adults and Omega-3 Grown-ups can also benefit from Omega-3's effects. It helps maintain a healthy heart and circulation and helps maintain proper joint function. It helps alleviate minor aches and pains associated with daily life and can help to protect and improve your skin, even helping sunburn and complaints like eczema. And it can help prevent mood swings, stress and tension. Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com |
| Mileage Boosting Tips |
Here's how you can save a nearly a buck on every gallon of gas
With a gallon of regular over four dollars today, most of us are looking for ways to get more out of what we've got. But, once you've already tuned up, checked your tire pressure, and are driving less... what else can you do? Well, here are five clever fuel conservation secrets from a real pro... a gypsy cab driver in San Francisco. (The fuel savings calculations are courtesy of AAA.) 1. Use your cruise control - This little piece of technology is much better at controlling speed than any human foot. Today's advanced cruise control devices can also optimize fuel/air mixture and other aspects engine performance. Potential Savings - 15% to 20% 2. Shift into Neutral - Slipping your automatic transmission out of "Drive" at stoplights. At a stoplight, an idling engine is still connected to the wheels, which you're holding still via the brake. Your engine's energy just creates heat by stirring the transmission fluid. Shift into neutral, the motor will experience less drag and use less fuel. Potential Savings - 11 to 17% 3. Change your air filter - The more air an engine gets, the more efficiently it runs. Changing a filter with scheduled service is rarely often enough. In the spring, when pollen fills the air, an air filter can lose as much as 50% of its efficiency is just a couple of weeks. Filters are generally inexpensive and most are easily changeable. Potential Savings - 7% to 17% 4. Close your windows - The additional drag created by open windows or a sun-roof can significantly decrease gas mileage, particularly at freeway speeds. As TV's Mythbusters proved, it's also better to drive with the pickup tailgate up, rather than down. Potential Savings - 6% to 14% 5. Wash your car - Just like the windows, anything you can do to increase the smooth flow of air over your car reduces drag and thereby increases gas mileage. A clean car always drives better anyway. Potential Savings - 3% to 7% While none of these tips is a wallet-stuffer on its own, cumulatively they can boost your gas mileage by 75%, cutting your fuel bill by more than a third. That's equivalent to trading-in a 24mph Camry for a brand new Prius hybrid, and you won't have to pay the dealer $20K for the privilege.
