Dear Fitness Friend and Life Enthusiast,
It's my birthday month! In Sweden, February is usually the
darkest, coldest, and toughest month. It's near the end of deep, dark winter, yet the promise of light returning is still a distant thought. Nevertheless, it's the
last stretch before spring arrives. That's how I feel every birthday!
I have
had an interesting year. An exhilarating one, but it also leaves me wondering, why does time pass more quickly as we get older? It feels like I'm on a sprint, which developed from a slow
run ... and the high that comes with the sprint is clearly present. I will, as
always, spend my special day with my loved ones and be grateful for my health, my perspective, and the fact I get to experience it all.
In LA, February is usually the rainy month (aka "STORM WATCH," as
Angelenos seem to have never experienced rain). We sure do need it here, and the plenitude of rain is welcome, washing away the dry, old, and used to make way
for newness: spring. In similar fashion, my birthday month is the preparation for something
NEW and EXCITING ... and I'd like to share some of my February Feelings with you!
Be sure to check out my blog at Loud Fitness and the new Ask Tanja feature, where I will answer your questions! Don't be shy, and please fire away ... though if it's about math or
politics, my knowledge is a bit limited so stick with the most important stuff: your wellness!
And thank you all for
being here!
In Biceps and Cartwheels,
Tanja D

Loud Living The Importance of Laughing
You know that feeling you get when you're done with a deep-from-the-belly, eye-tearing, heart- felt, thunderous laugh? THAT is physical therapy for the body and immune system right there!! I know it sounds LAME to make it clinical, but I won't say too much and will simply direct you to this great article from Therapy at Work on The Importance of Laughing. My own explanation for why it's so good is just that there is nothing that
lifts my heart and spirit as much as laughter. It's like instant therapy, and
an instant love tool - almost as good as really good sex!

Loud Eating Jen's Whole Foods Cooking Blog
Jen Hoy is an amazing holistic nutritionist and healer. In a recent blog post about Care Giving, Nurturing, and Everything in Between, she talks about nurturing foods and cancer, a topic that is close to my heart as my beloved father (whose birthday is this month,
too!) passed away from cancer a few years ago. I cannot stress how important
healing foods are. Jen is much better at explaining it than me, so visit Jen's Whole Foods Cooking Blog!
