Prayers Poured
Into The Foundations
of Central's Newest Campus
One of our Core Values is prayer and this will be foundational as Corey Bullock, the Gilbert Campus pastor and company build and lead our newest, upcoming campus to be opened in Ahwatukee in January of 2013.
"God has reminded and re-energized our team that we cannot do this without a strong foundation in prayer, nor would we want to," Corey and his wife, Amaris, recently wrote to the Prayer Team about his role as campus pastor there. For him, that means "not just forming prayer teams, but that we will be actively praying in motion and engaging everyone in it." For her, it means, "We have an opportunity to weave prayer into the DNA of our Ahwatukee core."
Indicative of that active, unconventional, movement of prayer, at their first rally, exploring who might become part of the Ahwatukee campus, they gave out water bottles. On the bottle was a reminder to stop and pray for the development of the new church each Wednesday at 12:34 p.m. (W1234), no matter what the bottle's owner was doing at that time. The bottles will come in handy also as the founding group of Central members start their prayer walking around the Ahwatukee area during the months before the first worship service. Prayer will be the gathering point and other aspects of discipleship will follow from there.
Part of the inspiration for these prayer walks surrounding the area where potential Ahwatukee attendees might reside came from Mark Batterson's book, The Circle Maker, Corey and Amaris explained. The group gathered for the first rally on Sunday, July 29, where they detailed the prayer plan of "strategic circles" to the rest of the prospective attenders. Symbolic of the circle idea, they held hands in a circle in the student building while they lifted up three main prayers which were for God to prepare the way, what their part is in the new campus, and for God's favor to be upon all that they do in the area. Go Techie
With Text Prayers
Prayer has gone Techie.
Ever notice on the screens before worship services a number to which you can text your prayer request(s)? Please take note. It offers another prayer option for everyone.
Some folks like the one-on-one prayer contact with a Prayer Partner, and some prefer to use the prayer request space on the Connection cards. But another avenue is the techie prayer potential of texting it to the Prayer Team.
Originally, the text prayer avenue was meant to be used by people sitting in the worship center at each campus before the service begins. The number would be flashed up on the screen asking if anyone had prayer requests. Then they could text them to the number and Intercessory pray-ers would pray for those requests in the Prayer Room during the worship time. However, the use has grown much larger now, and Cathy Cryer laughed that she has prayed some of our snow bird members all the way home, being texted on the night they reached Oklahoma City, and then the night they reached St. Louis, etc. all the way home!
Kevin and Jennifer Bowyer had sent some requests by text previously, after Kevin had noticed the contact number displayed on the pre-worship screen at Easter. So, when he had a severe kidney stone attack, he tried it again.
"Just before I was admitted, I sent the text," he said. When he had seen the number at Easter, he had thought, "How sweet that would be." So he copied the number into his phone and had it with him in the hospital.
"I'd used it before with other prayer requests and never got a response back," he said. "But this time, I got a response back. 'How cool was that?' I asked my wife." Read More Here

PRAY, PRAY, PRAY FOR RAIN! OR PAY, PAY, PAY LATER
Although farmers throughout the Midwest are experiencing the most expansive drought in 50 years, atheist groups condemned America's top agriculture official after he publically stated that he prays for rain in the face of our nation's terrible drought. Hopefully, despite his critics, the Agricultural Secretary will continue to pray all the more, along with Christians all across the U.S., and in other nations that depend on our country's agricultural exports. A SHORT PRAYER, A FALLING CHILD, AND A MIRACULOUS CATCH
The Bible indicates that short prayers can be very effective. For example, when Peter was beginning to sink after walking on the water, he cried "Lord save me" and Jesus rescued him. Steven St. Bernard, a NY city bus driver, spotted a three year old girl who had crawled through an open window. Like Peter, he thought to utter a short prayer-hear his prayer and see the result in a report from CNN News that includes footage of the man making the catch, and in a similar report at huffingtonpost.com.
