Potential Prayer Pastors Proposition

 by Paul Covert

Nebraska CC Logo

I love it when God does something I am not expecting.

That is just what happened in November.  We got an email from one of the professors at Nebraska Christian College.  They had seen an article we did in a Christian magazine, and they wanted to bring some students from the school here for their spring break to learn about prayer ministry.

It is not like Cathy and I don't have enough to do already.  But the thought of raising up more prayer warriors and even potential prayer pastors was just too much for us to pass up.  So April 21-29 a team of students and professors will be shadowing Cathy and me to learn about prayer.   Pretty exciting, don't you think?

Their time with us here at Central will include a Half Day in Prayer, Service Intercession, Thursday night Lift, and a ton of other prayer-related activities.  We also will be taking them to some of the other churches in the valley with strong prayer ministries and leaning from them how they do prayer ministry. We have every day planned with more to do and teach than we can ever get done. Anything we can do to extend prayer is a high priority for us.

You might be wondering if you can help.  You bet!

We will need housing for the team.  This will include a bed to sleep on and breakfasts each day.  Most other meals will be taken care of elsewhere.  They may also need transportation to the church each day.

If you have any interest in helping out please contact Cathy or me.

Who knows what God will do with this?

Spotlight

 Enlisting for Easter

Did you know Central has people in a Prayer Room praying for every worship service on every campus, covering all aspects of the worship service and all people in attendance plus another  few topics taken from our Web Prayer requests?

Well, we do.  And if there's ever a group of services where that kind of prayer is even more essential than usual, it's during all the Easter services. This year, there will be 18 services on our four campuses!  And, they are the most likely services all year to which our members and regular guests will invite people they hope will be ready to hear and accept the Gospel message. So, the Prayer Ministry is intentional in cooperating with those efforts and invites, praying through all the services for God's power, Holy Spirit, and perfect will to play out during each service.

This year, our goal is to have at least five people in all Prayer Rooms on all campuses (there are two Prayer Rooms each on the Mesa and Gilbert campuses) during all worship services. That adds up to needing 150 pray-ers over the Easter services.

Are you willing to pray for God to move powerfully through the audience at Central's four campuses during any of the Easter worship services?

Please contact Cathy at cathy.cryer@centralaz.com and let her know which service and which hour you would like to help with Intercessory Prayer this Easter.

And, once you have experienced it, maybe you'll be hooked and want to continue with Intercessory Prayer, attending one service and praying through another at your chosen campus.

April School of Prayer

Nearly 150 men and women gathered together recently for our first School of Prayer this year to learn what Jesus taught when His disciples asked Him how to pray.  Author and noted speaker, Dennis Fuqua, opened eyes and Scriptures, including the Lord's Prayer, for those in attendance in such numbers that required it be moved from the normal Mesa venue of Higher Grounds Café  to the larger capacity Chapel!

Our next School of Prayer will feature another special guest

Dick Eastman

speaker, Dick Eastman, world-wide author, speaker, and prayer program developer.  Save the date now as you won't want to miss his insights on prayer Sunday, April 22, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Dick is the International President of Every Home For Christ, a world-wide ministry of house-to-house evangelism, founded in 1946 in Canada. Through this program, working with more than 500 missions agencies and denominations around

the globe, more than 1.4 billion homes have received a printed message of the Gospel, one for adults and one for children, too.

Because certain areas of the world are still virtually closed to Christian outreach, Every Home For Christ has developed an especially strong prayer mobilization effort, including its multi-hour Change the World School of Prayer, originated by Dick.

He also serves as president of America's National Prayer Committee for the National Day of Prayer.

Dick will be coming to us from his hometown, Colorado Springs, CO.

Ethiopian Christians Arrested During Prayer In Saudi Arabia

In Saudi Arabia, persecution of Christians continues despite the authorities' claims to respect other faiths.  In December of 2011, 35 Christians were arrested at a private prayer gathering. According to Christoph Wilcke, a researcher for Human Rights Watch, "Men and women of other faiths have nowhere to worship in Saudi Arabia if even their private homes are no longer safe." Read more from trust.org and, for additional details from interviews with Christians held in a Saudi Prison, read an article entitled, Persecuted for Praying to God in Saudi Arabia.

Sahuarita Arizona: Answered Prayers for a Medical Miracle

Somehow little Jace McDonald ended up at the bottom of a pool.  "When we got him from the water, he was blue," said Robert McDonald. As soon as the first responders came to take over the CPR and transport the child to the hospital, the prayers began.  However, Jace's condition did not improve. After the child had been at the hospital overnight, a doctor asked to speak to the McDonalds privately. "He told us that Jace was non-responsive, that 'Your son is done, he's gone. There's nothing you can do.'" But there was something they could do, and they did it; the McDonalds, along with their friends, family, church members, and thousands of others who were following their story on Facebook, continued to pray.  Read more in an article from the Green Valley News and Sahuarita Sun.

Prayer to Overcome Evil Thoughts

The Bible tells us that Satan prowls around like a roaring lion that's seeking someone to devour.  Seemingly, Satan's favorite hunting grounds are within the human mind.  So how do we overcome evil thoughts? In a column for the Kansas City Star, Billy Graham reminds us of our need to confront evil thoughts with prayer. Read the article.

Prayer for Celebs? Whitney's Death PrOMPTS THOUGHT-PROVOKING ARTICLE

We live in a society that continually watches the rise and fall of talented people. Real talent is a gift and God is the giver of all good gifts. The ability to make beautiful music is one gift that He granted to Whitney Houston. Such magnificent talent brought her great fame, but fame often places great demands upon the gifted-demands that can lead them into precarious circumstances that eventually result in self-destructive behavior.  If we appreciate the gifts that propel people to celebrity status, why not pray for the gifted?
