Life Coaching is off to a
Great Start at Central

Several years ago I went through a period of discouragement and depression. Many of us do. Along the way, someone suggested that I get a Life Coach to help me through the rough spots.  So I did.

It was astounding how much good it did me.  I was able to leave the discouragement and depression behind and move on. Remember I have been a Christian for 43 years and have done quite a bit of work in the Bible during my years of ministry. You would have thought I had most of this down by now. But boy was I wrong.

Because Life Coaching worked so well, I decided to get certified and start life coaching others. To date, we have eight life coaches (five men and three women) from the prayer ministry who are now certified, and seven people who are being Life Coached. We even have a waiting list of those who want to go through the process.

Life Coaching is not for lightweights! It is a 26-week-long program that requires at least two hours of homework in between sessions. It is a Biblically-based course with heavy application of the truths found in the Bible. Life Coaching helps you move past the "What the Bible says to do," to living according to the Biblical pattern. It forces you to be honest about your areas of struggle so you can get help. It is painful at times, but, oh, so helpful.

So far we have not had a negative response to the course...quite the opposite.  People are raving about its helpfulness. Here is what one of our men says:

"A one-on-one mentorship with someone has been a real blessing, and my wife loves the results.  Having someone walk through that basic plan not only holds you accountable but truly causes you to look at life, your personal motivations and others in a brand new light.

I'd love to tell you that I learned a whole bunch of new stuff, but as Randy  (his life coach) likes to say, "...this is really Christianity 101,"  yet it is so effective, if you are willing to let the Word do its work.  It has been a long year, and we are almost done but really, there is no end to this journey. For the first time, it is exciting to think about the prospects of being  more obedient than the year before.

Count on me if you need a reference of a satisfied customer.  Oh yeah, it didn't cost me a dime to have a PERSONAL mentor.  It doesn't get any better than that."

If you would like to be Life Coached, contact Paul Covert at Paul.Covert@centralaz.com to be added to the waiting list.

School of Prayer

Taught by Dennis Fuqua

Dennis Fuqua (pronounced FEW-kway) has been the director of International Renewal Ministries (www.prayersummits.net) since 2000.  Prior to that, he pastored for twenty-five years in Gig Harbor, Washington.  In 1989, under the direction of Dr. Joe Aldrich, IRM gave birth to the Pastors' Prayer Summit movement.  Now Dennis shepherds this movement, which has spread to at least forty states and nearly thirty nations.  He not only facilitates Prayer Summits for pastors in cities, but also for congregations.

He earned both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees at Multnomah University.  He speaks often on topics related to both individual and corporate prayer in congregations, conferences and retreats.  His passion is to see the church relate best to God, to itself, and to those who have not yet placed their faith in Jesus Christ.

He is a member of America's National Prayer Committee and Mission America Coalition and serves as one of the coaches of the "Loving Our Communities to Christ" process.  His articles have appeared in several magazines including "Pray! Magazine." He is the author of the 2010 book, "Living Prayer: The Lord's Prayer Alive in You." (www.livingprayer.net) Dennis and his wife, Marilyn, have four adult children and seven grandchildren.  They live in Vancouver, Washington.

WHY DR. ZIPPORAH PRAYS FOR HER PATIENTS

Dr. Zipporah, an anesthetist who works in Africa, doesn't need scientific evidence to justify prayer. She says "I believe in prayers of faith and I pray for my patients and I have known over and over again that God has intervened in response to those prayers." Read more in an article from blackChristiannews.com.

PRAYER IN THE DRIVE-THROUGH LANE

Are you old enough to remember when the local fast food joint didn't have a drive through lane?  That's right, there was a time when you had to get out of the car to order a burger or taco.  In the late 1960s fast food vendors began to discover that the addition of a drive- through lane would quickly pay for itself and put them on the fast track to success; the drive-through made it extremely convenient for busy, tired people to get something to eat.  Now the drive-through lane concept is being applied to help satisfy the spiritually hungry---those busy, tired people who recognize that we sometimes need others to pray for or with us.  Watch report and read the story from Channel 11 news in Kennesaw, Georgia.

LIFE-SIZED IMAGE OF PRAYING GRIDIRON HERO

We've all seen pictures and figurines of people in prayer and some of them are thought- provoking, such as Santa kneeling before the baby Jesus and the once very popular painting of the elderly man at a table with folded hands and head bowed, saying grace over a small loaf of bread.  Now, there is a new, popular depiction of a man praying: a life-sized image of Denver Bronco's quarterback Tim Tebow kneeling in prayer!  See the image and read all about it. If you watch football or read sports news, you know that Tebow is very serious about prayer. Read more in an article from Inside Edition entitled, "Is Prayer Tim Tebow's Football Weapon."

PRAYER TO END LOCKOUT

The nation's economic woes remind us that God is the source of our blessings and that we are reliant on Him rather than business or government.  Early in December, employees of the American Crystal Sugar Company held a prayer vigil to end a lockout; their story is just one of many news stories about groups of people who are uniting in prayer to resolve tough problems.  Read more in an article from businessweek.com.
