Central Joins Forces with Other Churches
For Luis Palau's CityFest/Season of Service
International speaker and evangelist, Luis Palau, is coming to the Valley for a major evangelistic outreach called CityFest, at Tempe Town Lake March 19-20. Other events and opportunities for serving will begin in December to lead up to that outreach. See some of the Season of Service opportunities listed below:
CityFest Partnership:
We are partnering with CityFest throughout the next four months. This means that we will be in a Season of Service where we are showing the light of Christ to our community that will culminate in a massive Festival in Tempe in March where thousands of people will then hear the message of Christ.
Please pray for:
1) Leadership and organization of the event
2) Unity of the Body of Christ, His Church, so that observers might know we represent Jesus
3) Sustained partnerships between churches and their communities
4) The impact we will make (and that will be made on us) through our Impact Days
Impact Days
The Purpose of the Impact Day is to mobilize large groups of people to make the biggest impact in the shortest amount of time in the name of Jesus. We are encouraging all of our Central people to put on their I Heart t-shirts and invite their friends to participate in making a difference.
- Neighborhood Impact Day - February 5: identify the needs of your neighborhood and collectively meet them.
- Matthew Party - February 6: open your home on Super Bowl Sunday and throw a party to get to know your neighbors better.
- Homelessness Impact Day - February 26: to be determined according to each campus
- CityFest Event -- March 19-20: at Tempe Town Lake from 1 to 9 p.m. both days. Invite your friends to this event and let them be impacted by the gospel message presented by Luis Palau.
ARIZONA CITYFEST PRAYER AND PRAYER WALK
The Arizona CityFest initiative continues to build toward the exciting festival at Tempe Town Lake on March 19-20, now less than 3 months away (see www.arizonacityfest.com)! Never have there been so many churches connecting and cooperating throughout Arizona to bring "Season of Service" projects to our communities demonstrating the love of God in PRAYER and ACTION!
As the prayer chairman for Arizona CityFest, I invite you to join our vital network of intercessors for the next 3 months. We send out a simple, free Arizona CityFest Prayer Alert every two weeks. Please sign up today by e-mailing your name and e-mail address along with the message: "Sign me up for the prayer team" to Stephanie at: Stephanie.goss@palau.org.
In addition, Arizona CityFest is holding it's second prayer walk at the Tempe Town Lake site where the culminating festival for Arizona CityFest will be held on March 19-20, 2011. If you would like to join in this prayer walk, please meet at the NW parking lot off W. Rio Salado Drive at the Tempe Beach Park by the Mill Avenue bridge in Tempe at 10:00am sharp on Saturday, January 29 (10:00am - 11:30am).
*LET'S PRAY: Father, we thank You for bringing Arizona CityFest to our state. We ask for the momentum to continue to build by the power of Your Spirit capturing the hearts of Christians and churches throughout our state in bringing revival and transformation through Arizona CityFest. Continue to bring pastors and ministry leaders together in unity and cooperation. Raise up intercessors for every aspect of this great effort. May every detail come together in preparation for the festival on March 19-20, 2011 with relationships and collaboration taking place that will affect our region for years to come. Show us our personal assignment for this season. May thousands come to know You as Your name is lifted up and Arizona is transformed! In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
- Campus Impact Day - April 16: clean and polish the campus you attend in preparation for Easter Weekend. Build community with your campus
- Education Impact Day - May 7: serve the schools, teachers and education system in your area. (Teacher Appreciation day is Tuesday May 3)
Please pray for:
1) Pray for Corey Bullock as he leads this effort for Central.
2) Pray for Central people to participate in a strong and supportive way.
3) Pray that many will be won for the Kingdom through all these outreaches and events.
4) Pray that our communities will be strengthened by these efforts. |

Prayer News
NEW STUDY SHOWS THAT PRAYER HELPS ABUSE VICTIMS
An article from the Christian Post reports on a new study by Shane Sharp, a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. As a result of the study, Sharp found that prayer benefits women who are victims of abuse, helping them deal with negative emotions. Sharp also wrote that, "victims were able to see themselves in a positive light," and that prayer "helped raise their senses of self-worth that counteracted their abusers' hurtful words" (Read more at Christianpost.com)." Businessweek.com ran a similar article on the results of Sharp's study; it reports that prayer provided victims with "a readily available listening ear" and "an opportunity to see themselves as God views them (Read more at businessweek.com)." Sharp's study is published in the current issue of Social Psychology Quarterly.
FYI: According to an article from associatedcontent.com there are six common forms of abuse (Physical, Mental/Emotional, Sexual, Isolation, Verbal and Economic). Read more about the forms of abuse.
CHURCHES PRAY FOR HOMELESS WHEN TEMP FALLS
ABC's WISN reports that as temperatures plummet, members of some churches in the Cudahy Wisconsin area hold all night prayer vigils for the homeless. Despite controversy of zoning laws, the churches provide shelter to those who would otherwise be literally left out in the cold. Read more at wisn.com.
Philadelphia Eagles Receiver Says Grandmother's Prayers Saved Him from Life of Crime
If prayer hadn't helped bring about life-changing results during Jason Avant's youth, he might be receiving jail time or bullets instead of football passes. During an interview with Vaughn McClure, a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, Avant said, "What changed my life was my grandmother's prayers. She wanted me to be different. She raised me to do a lot better. Then I gave myself over to Jesus Christ my freshman year of college (at Michigan) and it changed my mindset. Life has never been the same since. I'm committed to Jesus Christ.'' Read more in this article at chicagotribune.com
FOOTBALL PLAYER PENALIZED AFTER A PRAYER IN THE END ZONE
During a semi-finals game, Tumwater High's Ronnie Hastie scored a touchdown and immediately dropped down on one knee to thank God, and "give glory to my heavenly father, Jesus." Hastie's action caught a referee's attention and, because the referee felt that Hastie "called attention to himself" he called a fifteen yard penalty. Read more and watch a video news report at dailymail.co.uk. The video includes Ronnie Hastie explaining his actions. You can also read more about Hastie in this article at theolympian.com.

Prayer Teams For North Africa Form ing
We Love North Africa! Join our intentional, focused prayer efforts for the Kingdom in North Africa. Beginning on January 24th we will be regularly gathering to pray for specific prayer requests from workers in and workers preparing to leave for Moonstar (our name for a specific North African country).
This country has a rich history which includes Berber, Phoenician, Roman, Arab and French cultures. It has had its share of war and Christian martyrdom. It is now one of the Arab world's most progressive countries, especially regarding education and the freedom of women. Following Jesus, though, is still not encouraged or easily done.
The people are known for their friendly and very hospitable personalities. You will be praying for some of these people during our prayer times. We believe that God wants us to pray specifically for the people of this country who are in conversations with and being discipled by our Christian brothers and sisters.
Please join us on the 2nd and 4th Mondays each month, 6:30-8 p.m. to be part of this unique prayer team. Contact Leslie at bedardfam5@msn.com or 480-259-9347 to let us know you will be there on at our first meeting on Monday, January 24, and to get more information. |
