Come Meet With Jesus
One Hour On The Mount
When Jesus walked this earth, people who wanted to be near Him, hear His message, and get to know Him had to walk miles to where He was, fight through the crowds that followed Him, and even sometimes, climb Sycamore trees to be able to see Him. Many wanted to hear Him, have time with Him. But it wasn't easy.
Today, we can be with Him in a moment. Wherever we are. We can talk with Him personally, pour out our hearts to Him and seek His direction and healing and touch on our lives. In fact, He longs for us to do that! It's why God gave us prayer.
Though we can do this anytime, any place, Central's Prayer Ministry understands that many members haven't unwrapped this special gift completely yet. Some only know how to dabble in prayer and take a few moments before a meal or just before sleep overtakes them to have a conversation with the Lord.

Half Day In Prayer
When everything about your life conspires to keep you away from God, from having special time with Him, from hearing His voice, reading His Word, or purposely sharing your heart with Him, you're in need of a Half Day in Prayer.
For years now, the Prayer Ministry here at Central has offered Half Day in Prayer once a month during the "snow bird" time of year, taking time Saturday morning away in the Usery Mountain Range to get alone with God.
About five years ago, Rick Safriet joined Prayer Pastor Paul Covert and several others for his first Half Day. Now he leads the Half Day Saturdays and wants to continue all year, even into the heat of the summer by going to pray at our various campuses, escaping into their air conditioning.
"Once I saw what happens to me and to others on a Half Day, and what a huge difference taking time to be with the Lord makes in our lives," Rick said, " I was hooked!"
"For me, personally, that day means seeking God in His Word and just being quiet, listening for Him. And talking to Him. It calms me. It sometimes brings me to a new turn in my life because of His guiding." Read more here...

"How to Survive and Thrive
When Opportunity Roars"
| Mark Batterson |
"What if the life you really want, and the future God wants for you, is hiding right now in your biggest problem, your worst failure...your greatest fear?" This intriguing question is posted on the back jacket of the best-selling book by one of our next Elevate Prayer Conference speakers, Mark Batterson.
If you're searching for an inspiring read and would like a glimpse into the heart of this main Elevate speaker, pick up a copy of "In a Pit With a Lion On a Snowy Day" and read it before the conference Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18 and 19, 2011. It might be a good Christmas gift for you!
If the title doesn't grab you, perhaps the subtitle will be the clincher, especially in today's turbulent and troubled times: "How to Survive and Thrive When Opportunity Roars." Read more here... |

Prayer News
A DEAD MAN AND A DOCTOR'S PROMPTING TO PRAY
An ER staff tried in vain to revive Jeff Markin after his massive heart attack. After forty minutes and a dozen shocks, the Doctor finally pronounced him dead. As the Doctor was leaving the ER he heard a prompting-a voice that told him to "turn around and pray for that man." He resisted the voice and told himself that the man was dead and nothing more could be done. But again, he was prompted to return and pray. This time, he decided to "honor the Lord" and go back to the room where the nurse was preparing the body for the morgue. There, he stood over the corpse and made a request to the Father in the name of Jesus. Then, he asked that they shock the man one more time. A video from CBN recounts the amazing events of that day. Watch it.
CHILEAN MINER: "There were actually 34 of us because God has never left us down here"
The ordeal of the Chilean miners prompted a multitude of prayers and upon their rescue many of the miners and their family members openly glorified God. An article titled, "Rescued Chilean Miner: God Won" includes the now famous "There were actually 34 of us..."statement from miner Jimmy Sanchez. This same quote has been tweeted around the globe and is mentioned in numerous news articles and blogs.
When miners were brought to the surface many dropped to their knees and thanked God for their deliverance. A CNN editor/producer noted that the majority of miners were wearing T-shirts over their coveralls. When he inquired about the phrase that was printed on the shirts he found that it was a simple prayer of gratitude. Read more at CNN and in a similar article at The Christian Post).
ILLINOIS UPHOLDS "MOMENT OF SILENCE" LAW
According to a spokesperson for The Illinois American Civil Liberties Union, a required moment of silence at the beginning of the school day would force elementary school teachers to teach students about prayer. However, for the moment, the law is still on the books.
Evidently, when the bill came up for a vote, some "musical" legislators, borrowed the tune from Simon and Garfunkel's"Sounds of Silence" and rewrote its lyrics in an effort to ease the tension in the ongoing legal battles over public prayer (or in this case, an opportunity for silent prayer in a public setting). You might want to hum the "Sounds of Silence" melody as you read the end of this article (read more).
ANOTHER PRAYER-RELATED "APP"
Have you ever been in immediate need of prayer but unable to find someone to join you at the moment you need it most? Now, there is a prayer-related app for iPhones called "Live Prayer." This "first ever" app was developed for an organization called Food for the Poor. The app connects you with a prayer partner within minutes. What do you have to do? Just download the app from their website, and enter your name and phone number; a prayer partner calls you within five minutes and offers to join you in prayer (read more).
FYI: Central's June 2010 edition of the newsletter featured a link to an article about an iPhone application called PrayerSteward 1.0 which helps users schedule personal prayer and keep commitments to pray with others (see the article and link below).
Prayer: "There's an App for that!" (From the June 2010 edition of this new letter)Do you often say that you will pray for the needs others? Do you keep your prayer commitments? If you are like many well-meaning Christians, you may have difficulty managing your prayer life. But if you use an iPhone or an iPod Touch, "There's an App for that." Click Here
