| Los Sugar Kings Performs to Kick Off One Winchester, Many Traditions |
|
One Winchester, Many Traditions kicks off its second year of programs with a sizzling performance by Los Sugar Kings at the market this week from 11 am to 1 pm. Los Sugar Kings is a multicultural Latin band known for its dynamic live performances, rich harmonies, and ability to transcend genres with an authenticity rarely heard. In their world, respect is paid to the forefathers and traditions of Afro-Cuban Son, Salsa, and Rumba-Flamenca, but Los Sugar Kings also actively draws on influences from all over the world in their unique repertoire. Wherever they perform a festival breaks out! One Winchester, Many Traditions is a project to welcome the town's residents from other countries and to celebrate the varied cultural heritages of all of Winchester's residents. Made possible by the generosity of the John and Mary Murphy Educational Foundation, One Winchester, Many Traditions is produced by the Winchester Public Library in conjunction with the Winchester Multicultural Network. At the market this week, visit the community booth next to the performers' area to pick up a schedule of our upcoming programs, including a demonstration of the Brazilian martial art/dance capoiera, craft programs from India and Ethiopia, and the second year of our international film series. In addition, the Library will be showcasing a wide range of materials for those interested in learning about other cultures as well as for those interested in learning English and about American culture. The Winchester Multicultural Network's International Connections committee will also be there to introduce their programs for the year. Come to the market this week to learn about all our upcoming multicultural programs and to experience Los Sugar Kings: "Totally bilingual, comfortably bicultural, compulsively danceable.." -Salem Gazette.
