| Join us for the Winchester Farmers Market
Saturday, 9:30-1:30, on the Town Common |
Greetings!
Welcome to the July 12 issue of the Winchester Farmers Market newsletter. Last week, the first sweet corn arrived at the market--a true sign of summer! There will be more corn at the market this week, as well as an increasing array of produce, including first-time items such as currants, gooseberries, and amaranth.
A new vendor, Mahoney's Garden Center, will be at the market for the first time this week, and the Winchester Artists Network will beging to sponsor a tent featuring displays and demonstrations by different Winchester artists throughout the rest of the market season.
We have been lucky to have beautiful weather for the market so far this season, but remember that the market will take place rain or shine throughout the season. Please try to ride your bike or walk to the market if you can, or park your car in the Aberjona or Shore Road lot to leave parking spaces surrounding the common open for short-term parking near downtown businesses. The Aberjona lot, which runs along the commuter rail track across from the post office, is free on weekends, including the permit spaces in the end of the lot.
Remember to bring your own shopping bags to the market if you can.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday on the common. Sincerely, Winchester Farmers Market Organizing Committee

| Winchester Artists Network at the Market |

Beginning this week, the Winchester Artists Network (WAN) will sponsor an artist table at the farmers market. WAN is a local organization that works to integrate art and artists into the local community. Founded 10 years ago, its a free, all volunteer organization with about 85 participating artists who live or work in Winchester. WAN counts art professionals and dedicated amateurs among its membership. Among the activities WAN sponsors are Art in August (a monthlong exhibit of local artists in store windows) and Art in the Park (a day of art and music for all ages).
The featured artist this week will be Mary Hart. Mary is a graphic designer and painter, and makes her living as an art teacher. Cut paper or Scherenschnitte has been her hobby for about 23 years. She will demonstrate paper cutting and also have cards and cuttings for sale. Cut paper is popular in many cultures - the style Mary works in was popular in central Pennsylvania in the 1700s and 1800s. She has demonstrated papercutting in Massachusetts and Illinois, and teaches an annual workshop at the American Folk Art Museum in NewYork City.
