Magnolia High School Hosts Anti-Bullying Rally

A Magnolia High School student writes, "On October 6, 2011, Magnolia high school

invited former NFL player Tyrone Smith who once played for the San  Francisco 49ers to speak to the whole student body on the issue of bullying in schools.  Tyrone is the founder of an organization called First and Goal. Tyrone Smith speaks to students all over the country on the topic of bullying.

His message addressed three aspects of bullying:

The bully, the victim and the bystander.

Tyrone presented his anti-bullying format four times, one for each grade, ninth through twelfth. Tyrone Smith's message to the students clearly supported Magnolia High School's zero tolerance policy already in place that takes a strong stance against bullying of any kind. Tyrone was well received by our students and we look forward to working with his organization in the future." (From the Magnolia High School Website)

Tyrone's message was so well received by all our students. Sharing his personal experiences allowed the students to relate to the serious issue of bullying. His message will be a great foundation for Magnolia High School to build on as we carry the banner of Anti-Bullying on our campus! Tyrone's challenge to our student body to make a difference in their school was powerful and motivating!

I am a Junior now at Baylor University. My major is Athletic Training; however I just recently decided to challenge myself with the Pre-Med track at Baylor University. My major will now be Athletic training/PreMed. Things are going great! I have worked with the  Baylor University football, softball, cross country, and track and field teams here as a part of my major. I have learned things such as emergency care, injury prevention, rehabilitation and physical therapy. I will start with my Pre-Med requirements for med school next spring semester. My ultimate goal as a career is to become some type of orthopedics specialist.

Garcia Middle School Kickoff 'Fuel Up to Play 60' Wellness Program

On Wednesday, September 28th, Tyrone Smith spoke at Garcia Middle School in Sugar Land.  Mr. Smith was invited to the school to talk about Fuel Up to Play 60 program.  He stressed the importance of fitness and nutrition in every aspect of life, and even shared his own personal experiences.  His message was further personalized by the connection to his diabetic parents, and his own determination to minimize his risk for developing the disease.  By drawing the parallel of activity to success, Tyrone motivated the crowd of 300 sixth graders to make activity a priority.

Launched by the National Dairy Council, local Dairy Councils and National Football League, in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture, the "Fuel Up to Play 60" program encourages youth to consume nutrient-rich foods and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. The program's aim is to help prevent childhood obesity and help youth develop life-long healthy eating and daily physical
