Established In 1999 by former National Football League (NFL) players, Tyrone Smith of the San Francisco 49ers, Derrick Harris of the St. Louis Rams and Darnell Walker of the San Francisco 49ers, the purpose of First and Goal, Inc. is to provide a unique service in which youth will obtain resources to enhance academic, social and moral development.

2010 Community Star
On October 28th First and Goal, Inc. received the 2010 Community Star award from the City of Houston Office of the Mayor and the Houston Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). First and Goal, Inc. was recognized for its services and efforts to prevent substance use and abuse among youth.

Poetry In Motion

The Care and Share mentoring program participants at Budewig Intermediate "Boy's Club" in Alief ISD got the opportunity to participate in a poetry workshop during their weekly group sessions faciltated by Emanuelee "Outspken Bean" of Metafour Houston. There have been numerous studies on the value of poetry for children, students experienced increases in vocabulary, critical analysis skills, and reading comprehension. Poetry education was particularly beneficial to students who were "struggling" in school, especially in the areas of reading and writing.

The boys were intelligent and really caught on to the lesson rather quickly given the time that it was presented to them. Budewig Intermediate really has a talented group of young men on their hands."

First and Goal, Inc. Care and Share group mentoring programs are being held at Budewig Intermediate and O'Donnell Middle in Alief ISD, Ft. Bend ISD (Barbara Jordan, Juan Seguin, Mission Glen, Quail Valley & Oyster Creek Elementary) and Nat Q. Henderson elementary in HISD this semester.

| National Red Ribbon Week

On October 25th and 27th Tyrone Smith got the opportunity to speak at Elsik High School in Alief I.S.D. for National Red Ribbon Week to over 300 students and Budewig Intermediate Alief I.S.D. to over 600 students about the importance of being drug free and bully prevention.
