Amber's Story Amber participated in the First and Goal, Inc. - Journey Beyond Dreams college experience program last summer at Baylor University. She feels that the program helped her to see the importance of going to college. _______________________________________________________________ "I just want to say that Journey Beyond Dreams is a
great program. I think every student should be able to experience this camp.
Journey Beyond Dreams can be a vital part of a person's life not only college
wise, but just life in general. I will never forget my time at Baylor University with
the Journey Beyond Dreams staff and all the new people I met. I will be disappointed if
there isn't a JBD reunion!!! When I'm a college student, I definitely want to come back and be a part of the JBD staff so that I can give kids my same experience or even better!" Click to view Amber's full story

Building Tomorrow's Leaders Today
|
On January 9th, Tyrone Smith was the featured speaker for the middle school general session at Career and Education Day, presented by The Houston Hispanic Forum. This event, held at The George R. Brown Convention Center, is the nation's largest career and education day with an estimated 17,000 to 18,000 in attendance. The event serves Houston area students and their families, and focuses on imparting to each student a desire for success in their lives. During the event, TEAM First and Goal did a breakout session titled. "Inside The Huddle" A Game Plan For Life. The message of this session focused on teaching individuals the values of planning, setting goals and how to become effective leaders in their personal and professional lives. Both parents and students found the presentations to be rewarding, entertaining, and educational.

"Tyrone Smith's interactive workshop at the Houston G-Force Leadership Summit challenged Houston Independent School District middle and high school students to be leaders on their school campuses. Focusing on the importance of college and higher education, Tyrone engaged students in discussions and activities that demonstrated the importance of goal-setting, communication and teamwork. Students left Tyrone's workshop inspired to make a difference in their schools."
Jennifer Pandya - Program Director Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
The workshop is great and funny. I found out more about leadership and the presenter Tyrone Smith was hilarious but real with us. He explained how we are an influence on ours peers on a daily basis we meet new people in his class and now have great friends. The exercises were interesting and creative I would love to return next year.
Student - Davion Antwine
Tyrone Smith's presentation was really great. He interacted very well with the students and they were engaged as he explained leadership and college hype. Tyrone did a wonderful job incorporating music and movies into his presentation that really captured the students attention. The students loved him and were eager to take what they learned back to their prospective schools!

Career Day at Dulles Middle School on January 22nd
Mr. Smith's presentation was nothing short of spectacular! Our students absolutely loved his level of enthusiasm and energy. His message on being true to yourself and goal setting were real - not a lecture but spoken from the heart and from his experience. Our Principal said that in the nine years that he has participated in Career Day, this was hands down the best presentation yet!! We'd love for him to return next year!!!!
