Established In 1999 by former National Football League (NFL) players, Tyrone Smith of the San Francisco 49ers, Derrick Harris of the St. Louis Rams and Darnell Walker of the San Francisco 49ers, the purpose of First and Goal, Inc. is to provide a unique service in which youth will obtain resources to enhance academic, social and moral development.

Former Student On A Mission

Magdalena "Maggie" Manzano is a former participant of the First and Goal,

Inc. - 2003 Journey Beyond Dreams college experience program. Maggie was a first generation college student, and contributes her interest in furthering her education to the Journey Beyond Dreams college experience program. After the program, Maggie attended Sam Houston State University and earned a degree in Economics and International Business with a minor in Spanish. Maggie is now a graduate student at Texas A&M University working towards a Master of Public Service and Administration. Maggie is now giving back to the program that changed her life . This summer she interned with First and Goal, Inc and experienced what it is to truly impact the lives of today's youth.

Speaking The Truth

On August 27th Tyrone Smith had the opportunity to present at the Mayor's Anti-gang Summer Program. The Mayor's Anti-Gang Office Summer Program is designed to involve youth in activities that are productive and educational, while also adding structure to their summer. The program is conducted through two 6-week summer sessions extending from June 4 to August 27, 2008 and involve more than 70 of our clients participating in Decision Making, HIV/STD, Gang/Drug Awareness, and Truancy Reduction workshops as well as a Career Day. The youth also commit two weeks of their time to community service projects. At the end of each session the youth are recognized through a completion ceremony that includes their families.
