The Dream Career Starts Here

On Saturday, February 7th, Tyrone Smith was the featured speaker for the middle school general session at Career and Education Day, presented by The Houston Hispanic forum and co-sponsored by BP.  This event, held at The George R. Brown Convention Center, is the nation's largest career and education day with an estimated 17,000 to 18,000 in attendance.  The event serves Houston area students and their families, and focuses on imparting to each student a desire for success in their lives.  During the event, TEAM First and Goal did a breakout session titled "Power Principles" Building Blocks for Success.  The message of this session focused on key principles to help individuals get the most out of their talents and skills on a daily basis.  Both parents and students found the presentations to be rewarding, entertaining, and educational.

Running for a reason
Katishia 2
Journalist and News Anchor, Katishia Cosley Trigg made a tremendous contribution, and showed vast will power and determination when she raised money for First and Goal, Inc. programs by running in the Houston marathon in January. Here is her story:

THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE

Katishia Cosley Trigg

I am by no means an athlete.  The closest I've ever been to athletic was my days as a high school cheerleader and even that is questioned by many as to whether or not it's a true sport!  So, a year ago, I set out in search of something to help motivate me to be more active.  I've never loved running, but it has always helped me shed unwanted pounds.   The College Life

Tyrone Smith participated in a college speaking tour in California on February 17th and 18th.  Tyrone Smith spoke to college students and staff at various community colleges which included Reedley Community College in Reedley, Willow International Community College in Clovis, and Madera Center Community College in Madera, California.  The college students were inspired to value their life experiences, and challenged to develop action plans to help them accomplish their goals in life. .

Tyrone,
I attended your seminar last week at Willow International. I just want to let you know that you gave an outstanding presentation. I could sum it up with one word "Real". You were genuine and I knew you were speaking directly from your heart. Keep up the good work!

  Reaching Students in San Antonio

In February, Tyrone Smith was sponsored by the Horace Mann Companies to speak with the local elementary, middle, and high school students of Marion ISD.  The students were encouraged and enriched by the compelling speech that urged students to see the "power within their own possibilities".  Students were uplifted by the message that no obstacle is a mountain to large to be moved, and learned that failed experiences can be fuel for motivation instead of excuses for quitting. Each student left with the challenge of being positive leaders in their schools, homes, and communities.

Tyrone,

Awesome presentation today. I was quite impressed. I know how hard it is to keep a high school audience focused and involved. I personally think you did an awesome job.  I feel that I can tell you this due to the fact that I have been a tad more fortunate than other students and have gotten to experience many motivational speakers. Most have life-touching stories that are quite inspiring but they fail to get audience involvement, and that I have found is a very important factor in keeping the crowd interested.

You did a super job and I want to thank you so much for coming out to our school.   I think our students were really interested and impressed. So thank you so much! I wish you much luck in your future presentations! Have a fantastic day!

Making a Difference

TEAM First and Goal began initial group sessions at Crossroads Alternative Technology School in Alief ISD. The sessions focus on conflict resolution as well as leadership skill building.  The purpose of the session is to impress upon at-risk youth the desire to see their own ability to rise above the pitfalls of their environments and reach their greatest potential.

I loved the speech that you and Team First and Goal provided for us. Many of the things that you guys spoke upon us can be very helpful towards our futures. Also many of the topics of the seven P's helped me realize that I can do alot more than what I once thought. Thanks for the good words of advice Tyrone Smith...
