Established In 1999 by former National Football League (NFL) players, Tyrone Smith of the San Francisco 49ers, Derrick Harris of theSt. Louis Rams and Darnell Walker of the San Francisco 49ers, the purpose of First and Goal, Inc. is to provide a unique service in which youth will obtain resources to enhance academic, social and moral development.

Helping to Develop Stars for Conroe ISD

On July 31st TEAM First and Goal traveled to Conroe ISD to speak to high school students participating in the STAR program. The TEAM spoke to students about college readiness and the importance of preparing for life after high school. TEAM speakers emphasized attending college as one of the most rewarding and special times in life, and encouraged the students to embrace their education as the true measure for their success in life.

Tyrone Smith Teaching Youth About
the Game of Football and Life

On July 15th and 16th Tyrone Smith delivered an inspirational message to youth attending the FCA football camp at the KATY ISD Rhoads Stadium. Tyrone encouraged all students to be the best student and athlete, but focusing first on their education. During the camp, each student received valuable incite and advice from professional athletes about the game of football and life. The youth were inspired to reach for their dreams and develop their "Game Plan for Life."

Happy Healthy Homes Conference

On July 31st, Tyrone Smith was a speaker for the "Happy Healthy Homes" conference hosted by the Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services. The conference is geared to help foster and build the self esteem and self worth of young women. Mr. Smith had the opportunity to share some of his defeats and triumphs in life, while also taking the time to share heart felt stories that helped to encourage the young women. His message inspired the young women to "Dream Big for The Future" and establish expectations and goals for themselves. Each student left Mr. Smith's session inspired to succeed in life despite having setbacks.

First and Goal, Inc. - L.E.A.D. (Leadership Empowerment to Achieve Dreams) Conferences and Camps are designed to build today's youth into tomorrow's leaders. During the conference students will define the characteristics of a leader and their personal views on leadership. Where Are They Now

My name is Magdalena Manzano (Maggie), and I was a member of the class of 2003 Journey Beyond Dreams programat Baylor University (I was in Ms. Taryn Ozuna's group and we still keep in touch over Facebook every so often). I just graduated from Sam Houston State University, and I graduated from Sam Houston High School in 2004. I majored in Economics and International Business with a minor in Spanish. I just wanted to let you know that this program changed my perspective on what I could achieve by pursuing a college education. This past January I was appointed by Governor Perry to be the Student Regent for the Texas State University System. There are only nine Student Regents in the state of Texas and I have been incredibly fortunate to have been granted this opportunity. I really hope to hear from you soon. This program changed my life and to be part of it has been one of the best decisions of my life. Seeing people such as yourself and the rest of the counselors really showed me that a college education was not something impossible and it was something I could really achieve. I did not come from a great background and many times I thought to myself that college maybe wasn't something meant for me. This program changed that. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Since 2003 Baylor University has partnered with First and Goal, Inc. each year to host the Journey Beyond Dreams college experience program. Journey Beyond Dreams is a comprehensive educational experience designed to increase higher education interests in high school students. The mission of "Journey Beyond Dreams" is to increase the graduation and college attendance rates of underrepresented students.
