CHESTER - Chester Theatre Company's 2010 smash hit production Last Train to Nibroc, will open the Peterborough Players 78th Season, running June 22nd to July 3rd. The run at Peterborough will stay true to CTC's production in every respect, with Allison McLemore as May and Joel Ripka as Raleigh, under the direction of CTC Artistic Director Byam Stevens.
Stevens is excited about the upcoming transfer: "Not only is it an honor to be opening the Peterborough Players season, but its further evidence that CTC consistently punches above its weight - this is our third transfer in four years, following the Off Broadway productions of THE BULLY PULPIT in 2008 and THE DISHWASHERS in 2009."
Last Train to Nibroc, Arlene Hutton's funny, touching portrait of two people searching for happiness, tracks May and Raleigh's romance through years of missed connections. The play, which unfolds in threes scenes that begin in December of 1940 and end in May of 1943, was nominated by the New York Drama League as Best Play. The Berkshire Eagle hailed the CTC production as "An irresistible love story. Warm, funny, and unsentimental... As our current world shivers with uncertainty, the time has never been more right for this play about two decent people trying to make their way in a world that seems arrayed against them."
During her residencies at the MacDowell Colony, playwright Hutton got to know the work of neighboring Peterborough Players, "Having enjoyed performances at Peterborough Players, I couldn't be happier that two of my favorite theatres are joining forces. The CTC production of Last Train to Nibroc was one of the finest I've seen of my play -- beautifully directed and superbly cast. I'm sure that my friends in New Hampshire will enjoy this valentine of a production as much as I did."
