NSSRA Makes News in Denver

In case you weren't able to stop by the NSSRA booth at the recently completed SIA Snow Show in Denver, you should be pleased to know that NSSRA was in the news at the show.

On Friday, January 28, Chairman Paul Prutzman represented NSSRA among the major snow sports industry stakeholders -- NSSRA, SIA and NSAA -- at a breakfast attended by 200 people. The purpose of the gathering was to see the trends in snow sports participation and to start an industry-wide conversation about how all of us -- specialty retailers, manufacturers and ski areas -- can work together to increase participation.

Paul spoke to the assembled industry leaders and emphasized the important role that specialty retailers have in attracting participants to snow sports. Also on the program were SIA Chairman Tim Petrick, NSAA President Michael Berry, Learn To Ski & Snowboard Month's Raelene Davis, and snow sports ambassador Glen Plake.

Later that day, the NSSRA Board of Directors met and elected new officers and directors. The Board meeting was followed by the General Membership meeting.

In addition, NSSRA announced a co-sponsored program with SIA to bring existing customers back to your shops for tune-ups they may have neglected.

NSSRA Elects New Officers and Directors

The NSSRA Board of Directors elected a slate of four new officers and two new directors at its annual meeting at the SIA Snow Show in Denver.

The new officers are Brad Nelson, Hi Tempo Ski, Snowboard & Sail, White Bear Lake, Minn., Chairman of the Board; Lori Underwood, Peter Glenn of Vermont, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Vice Chair; Greg Dekdebrun, Dekdebrun's Ski & Snowboard, Ellicottville, N.Y., Treasurer; and Paul Prutzman, Pinnacle Sports, Inc., Reading, Pa., Past Chairman.

The two new Directors are Todd Brewer, Hoigaard's, Inc., St. Louis Park, Minn., and Larry Merkel, Round House Sports Center, Inc., Bozeman, Mont.

"I look forward to working with our new officers and directors to further the efforts of NSSRA," said Nelson. "I'm also extremely grateful to these individuals and the rest of the Board of Directors for their willingness to give of their time and energy and work on behalf of specialty snowsports retailers.

"Since 1989, the volunteer retail members of the NSSRA Board have worked on issues that affect all specialty snow sports retailers," Nelson continued. "It is through the efforts of those board members that all of our businesses have benefited.

"
Lastly, I'd like to thank David Ingemie and the staff of SIA for their continuing support of NSSRA," Nelson said. "Over the years that I have worked with SIA, their support of our efforts and the mission of NSSRA has been invaluable.

"I'd also like to thank the SMC and SSL buying groups and our sustaining vendor members for their support of specialty retail," he added. "The support of these two buying groups and some of the most prominent members of the vendor community speaks to their commitment to specialty retailers from around the country."

NSSRA and SIA Partner on Retailer Service/Tuning Promotion
Good tuning and waxing (or lack of) can make or break a day on the hill. In fact, any snow sports retailer will tell you that properly tuned skis and snowboards will perform how they were designed to -- providing better performance and control. Unfortunately, not all consumers know or remember that sound advice. In an effort to educate consumers on the benefits of regular tuning and waxing skis/snowboards, NSSRA and SIA have launched a turn-key direct mail postcard service for snow sports specialty retailers at: Snowsports.org.

With direction from SIA's Retailer Advisory Committee, whose members represent specialty ski and snowboard shops across the country, SIA has developed a series of postcards with standard messaging and creative that can be sent directly to customers. Shops can easily download and print postcards in-house or work with Customers First to purchase printing and mailing packages.

In the end, by offering tips on tuning, waxing and servicing their equipment, retailers can improve their customers' experience and get them back into the shop for another visit.

You can get started by:

1. Go-to: Snowsports.org/tuningservice

2. Choose from four postcard designs including Generic Ski/Snowboard, Ski-Only, Snowboard-Only and Mountain

3. Drop in store logo and pricing

4. Print and mail to customers
