Top Microsoft .NET Trends: What You Need to Know about Licensing, Protection and Reporting
Thursday, September 24, 2009 2:00 p.m. EDT/11:00a.m. PDT
Software vendors, enterprises, and technology providers are increasingly turning to the Microsoft .NET platform to create and deploy new innovative applications. As they do, key requirements surface to ensure that organizations maximize the revenue or value derived from these applications and protect the intellectual property (IP) contained within them.Because .NET applications are more susceptible to being decompiled and reverse engineered, organizations need to consider implementing granular licensing processes and protection for sensitive software IP. Speakers from Microsoft, InishTech, and V.i. Labs will discuss how these key .NET requirements can be met through a combination of licensing technology, software protection, and tamper detection and reporting. Attend this webinar and you will learn about the latest trends in .NET technology and adoption and how to:- Implement a tamper resistant license system to maximize customer revenue and prevent overuse within an install base
- Secure valuable IP within easily decompiled .NET code
- Track and report on tampering and piracy to ensure maximum revenue and value preservation

V.i. Labs Software Piracy Risk Assessment Report - September 2009
|
Although the "old-school" piracy groups are still active today, the increase in cracking expertise, greater Internet bandwidth, and growing demand for pirated software has extended the traditional piracy scene into a larger, more decentralized distribution process that makes pirated software available to masses of businesses and individuals. This process continues to use well-known peer-to-peer networks and protocols, but has also exploited new file hosting and web sharing approaches that allow individuals and groups that are not part of the traditional piracy scene to profit by selling and distributing pirated software. Even as anti-piracy organizations make relative gains in temporarily disrupting BitTorrent tracker site operations, the channel continues to expand using hundreds of file hosting sites, affiliate web forums and blogs.
V.i. Labs researched a sample of 43 high-value software vendors and made the following observations:
- 100% had releases available on RapidShare file hosting servers and 67% of these had releases available on two or more file hosting sites
- 95% had pirated software available from BitTorrent
- 67% were available on eDonkey
- 62% had releases available on Usenet
We found that file hosting services are a significant piracy distribution threat. 100% of the pirated product releases surveyed were available on Rapidshare and 67% were available on two or more file hosting service providers.
This latest report details the operation of these popular networks and their relationship to the process of distributing pirated software.
